Yes! Googling for info and these forums are the only places I go on the web anymore. Too much good info on here for time to do anything else on my computer....it's almost an addiction to go without being on here~I'm so afraid I'll miss something vital! :D

Thanks for the head's up! I was considering that book too. The other book I want is called "The ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture"
This book is worth having! This is the beekeeping bible. My father has bees and so does my brother and they both swear by this one book. My father has numerous copies of it, the very old copies to the newer editions. My brother I believe has bought every beekeeping book coming and going and this is his favorite. Everyone in my brother's bee club recomends it highly also.

I purchased the book "Keeping Bees and Making Honey" It is allright, just a beginners primer to beekeeping. It is a pretty book though!

there seem to be several editions of The ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture on Amazon. i'm assuming the most recent is the Ann Harman edition?

Up-the-Creek, could you ask your dad or brother if they think there is a significant difference in the editions and, if so, if there is one they favor?

I had a hive for about a year. I managed to capture a swarm one spring. Late the following summer they left though. I think I got an infestation of ants and it caused them to leave.
I have since been looking to get another swarm, but have not been diligent enough. Maybe I'll have better luck this coming spring.
I like the idea of getting my own honey and wax, but the best part is the pollination. We definitely noticed an increase in our crops, when we had the bees.
And we don't mind that some folks are afraid of bees, they can just stay out of our yard ;)
I have found my best source of information and help to be other beekeepers in my area.

ETA I also found that the beestings relieved my arthritis, another good thing!!!

LOL I also have a very bee friendly yard. The japanese spirea plants are THEIRS. All kinds of different bees visit it each summer (late) when it flowers.

Talked to my Dad,..he says it would be best to get the lastest edition of "The ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture" it is always updated with newer info. I believe the latest is the 41st edition. He also recommends another book,.."The Hive and the Honey Bee" published by Dadant & Sons. Here is the link to them.

thanks! i've had Hive and the Honey-Bee for a while, but i'd not heard of The ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture.
I hear it's the encyclopedia of beekeeping. I have it from the library but haven't had a chance to read it yet.
