AN EGG COOKER!!!

Friends loaned us their old Hamilton Beach Egg Cooker. You can hard boil or soft boil up to 7 eggs, or poach 4. Since we have a LOT of really fresh eggs, I have found it is darn near impossible to peel fresh eggs when you hard boil them. I was leaving a dozen of them set, off to the side in the fridge for a few weeks, just for hard boiling. NOT ANY MORE!! This thing ROCKS!! You can hard boil "fresh out of the chicken" eggs and they peel like melted butter!!! :celebrate
I got on E-bag and found one just like their, "new in the box" so I bought it. Man is thing ever slick!! Poaches eggs to PERFECTION! :weee

Why didn't you guys ever tell me about this thing before?? :smack

 :gig  :gig

On the BYC forum, someone said if you bring your water to a boil, add your eggs, cook for 14 minutes, drain, then immediately cover eggs with ice til cooled, they peel perfectly. IT WORKS. I tried it on my fresh eggs from my chickens.

Add eggs after the water comes to a boil? Won't they explode? Hmmmm.......gotta try that. When my freeloaders uncross their legs again.

firem3, I just write the dates on a dozen eggs and put a note in the carton that says "Save for boiling!" and let them wait a month, so they are closer to the age of grocery store eggs, which are often older than that.

The only way we ever eat eggs anymore is cooking them in my egg poacher. Easy, quick, no mess of frying, etc. And you can make them as soft or as hard as you like....love my egg poacher!

I cook them about 10 minutes then use ice water too. It's great.

I cook them about 12 minutes, but this definitely works.

THAT is what I had been doing, dating my eggs!! They STILL were kinda hard to peel. I always put my eggs in a pan of water with a bit of salt added, bring to a boil, simmer for one minute, turn the heat off, then let them set in the hot water for 10 minutes. THEN I pour cold water over them until they are cool.
Those days are GONE thanks to this little gizmo!

.
Must add salt to the water, if the eggs do crack the salt stops them from totally pouring out into the water.

I use my electric steamer to "boil" my eggs. just works for me!
