drink lots of water
i know this is akin to saying i hate being alive, but i hate drinking water. i gulp down as much as i can everyday, but i don't enjoy it one bit. it tastes like nothing and it makes my tummy hurt.
I have got to show my DH this post. He thinks I am crazy because water hurts me as well. No filter works. Boiling it first helps more than anything but I can only drink about 4 oz at a time at most. Therefore, I am a water sipper when I drink it, which is not often.

Now to finish catching up on this thread. You people have outdone yourselves with the wealth of info here.

Ahh, the water debate. Here are my thoughts, as a massage therapist with lots of experience with people in pain and my hands in muscle tissue for many hours per week.

I recommend that people start with 1/2 ounce of fluid per pound of body weight daily. If you weigh 132 lbs, you need two quarts. Of course, that is a generalization. As is the 8 glasses a day, 8 oz each.

If you eat a "wet" diet with lots of fresh, raw fruits and veggies daily, lots of soups, etc, then you need less. If you eat a lot of junk, sandwiches, etc, you need more. More if you work hard and sweat, more if it is hot, more if it is very cold and dry.

Sodas that are carbonated will throw your calcium/phosphorous ratio off and leave you calcium depleted. There is more to hydration than drinking something that is liquid. Even drinking plain sparkling water all day will cause big problems.

Many people who are in chronic pain are also chronically dehydrated. I can feel it in their tissues. They often hydrate with coffee and diet sodas only. Dehydration is the first thing we look at with muscle cramps and headaches, too.

If you get a stomach ache with water, two suggestions....drink warm or hot water only, and/or never on an empty stomach. Usually, in my experience, this happens with people who have other health challenges, usually relating to digestion, which can be healed.

Just as the average person does not eat right, the average person does not hydrate correctly, either. Notice that the snopes article quoted the same people who use the food pyramid as a guide to proper nutrition, and see soy as healthy, and saturated fats as unhealthy.

Just my 5 cents. Inflation. :D

Oh, yeah, and there are four main ways that our bodies release toxins, and they all require water: Our breath, our sweat, pee'ing, and pooping!

Lack of hydration also contributes to bad breath and constipation.

I watched this tonight and was impressed and amused,..(he is funny). I am not one who jumps on band wagons, but this was interesting to say the least. It all makes good sense and I have always been leary of certain things (foods) because I have always thought we need to eat things as close as to the natural state that they are. It hits close to home considering my father is Type 2 diabetic and so is my older sister, along with all my Dad's siblings. I am taking the movie to my parents tomorrow for them to watch in hopes it may make my Dad understand why he needs to lay off the carbs. Then I am coming home and throwing out all the vegetable oils and margarines in the house, going to go buy some real butter and some animal fat in a bucket!:gig My doctor will love this. ;)
