Almost Self-Reliant
FWIW, this is the email I composed to send to my elected officials. Feel free to make use of it:
I am writing to voice my whole-hearted opposition to the PCNA Act that has been proposed to Congress, and I am encouraging you to oppose the passage of this bill as well. I find it horrifying that any member of Congress would even consider enacting legislation that would put us on par with countries such as Iran and China. While I understand that the intent of this bill would be to protect the safety of Americans' online information, I think this would put an inordinate amount of power in the hands of the president. The citizens who use the internet have to take responsibility for the information that they put out there, NOT the government. The internet is a place of open discourse and truly is the epitome of freedom of speech in this country, and is a symbol of that freedom in countries such as Iran and China where personal rights are severely restricted. Giving the president the ability to "shut down" certain sectors of the internet would give credibility to similar actions by dictators such as Ahmadinejad, Hu Jintao, and Kim Jong-Il. Once again, I urge you to take a stand for American freedom and oppose any attempts to pass this bill.
Hopefully it sounds pretty coherent.
