Amateur Radio can be shut down at anytime, and that has already happened once in history (during WWII). It's a great medium for talking over distances, but there are a lot of variables (licenses, propagation, etc.) that would make it tough for a group such as this. It could indeed be done, though in a less spontaneous manner. If things get bad enough that the internet would be shut down, you can best be sure that Ham Radio would be also, or at least restricted to those operators working in support of government or relief agencies.chipmunk said:1) CK, hope it's ok if I plagarize your letter, too
2) Perhaps I'm just paranoid, but I'm thinking this forum would be on an early hit list if anybody wants to quash dissent

Edited because I can't spell and have a bad short term memory
http://profiles.incredible-people.com/the-unknown-rebel/Technology, which can so often implement violence or oppression, can also give a nobody a voice and play havoc with powers vertical divisions by making a gesture speak a thousand words. The entire Tiananmen uprising, in fact, was a subversion underwritten by machines, which obey no government and observe no borders: the protesters got around official restrictions by communicating with friends abroad via fax; they followed their own progress unrecorded on Chinese TV by watching themselves on foreigners satellite sets in the Beijing Hotel; and in subsequent years they have used the Internet and their Western training to claim and disseminate an economic freedom they could not get politically.
