I have just been reading an interesting thread on another forum about being an introvert. I thought it was interesting how many people raised their hands and said "I'm an introvert too!". I just saw a segment on tv the other week about introverts also... and recognized myself. The gist of the piece was that there is nothing wrong with being an introvert, we can handle large gatherings just fine, but need time alone to recharge (and enjoy being alone). Introvert does not necessarily equal shyness.

I can enjoy being around a group of people, but Lord, they tire me out! I wonder if the reason I enjoy so many SS activities is that it is stuff that I can do by myself???

How many of you are introverts? How many have an introvert/extrovert mixed marriage? :D (My hand goes up :barnie that man can talk blisters on your ears!)

Ambiversion

Although many people view being introverted or extroverted as a question with only two possible answers, most contemporary trait theories measure levels of extroversion-introversion as part of a single, continuous dimension of personality, with some scores near one end, and others near the half-way mark. Ambiversion is a term used to describe people who fall more or less directly in the middle and exhibit tendencies of both groups . An ambivert is normally comfortable with groups and enjoys social interaction, but also relishes time alone and away from the crowd.

That is what I think I am I feel fine in groups and I have a good time but at home I don't really want anyone there that does not live here, I used to not be this way but as I get older I get worst about it drives my family crazy when they want a friend to stay, I get into a panic :barnie mode for a bit so I have to find something to do to calm me down then I'm fine

I hear ya on this

my home is for me and the few I allow there

I am not a 'home party' person

I go out to find my fun, but when I get home, don't come knocking :p
(other than my best friend and a few select others )

LOL - that's funny. I am definitely a homebody and an introvert, but I absolutely love having people over and cooking for a crowd. Of course, I am relieved when they all go home, but I do enjoy it while they are here.

I do not like going to other peoples home for parties - probably because there is no where for me to escape to for a few minutes to regroup.

I'm an extrovert.

I do not enjoy having people over my house however, but it doesn't have to do with my personality. It has to do with the messiness of my other family members! I'm embarassed with all their clutter and junk around and that my furniture and home are shabby.

I used to be more extroverted but since losing most of my hearing, I'm working toward ambiversion. It is hard to make a personality switch!

I am right on the edge...I love being around people (especially my friends from college, love it when the gang gets together) but sometimes I can't WAIT to get home and just have some down time!

I've found a solution to this....I love my home for just me, so once a month or so I cook a great meal and bring it over to my parents, and we invite another couple. They have a community room where they live with a kitchen, so we are talking about having a larger gathering. That idea does not freak me out like having people in my home does. I look forward to it! And we don't have to clean before or after, other than the normal picking up of our stuff.

I definitely value my alone time and even enjoy the time when my dh is at work and I am at home all alone. Too much and I get lonely and restless, but that is rare.

So I am ambivert on the introvert end of the scale.

JRMom - you & I are cut from the same cloth! My husband is the same way, too! He's the kind of guy who will strike up a conversation with someone in line at the bank.

curly kate, that is how my daughter is, and was, even as a very small child. She used to approach strangers in the grocery store and start up long conversations all the time when she was four or five. I think she was practically born talking!
