I think you are officially addicted to chickens... Your in trouble now. :D

I have a macadamia nut tree down my hill. It's about 20 25 feet from the closest fruit tree. My pear, this is new so it has not set fruit yet. The apricot is the next closest and it did great last year. So I guess its ok. Jeesh, the things you need to know.

thanks, g

Now, a SEROUS word of caution, before using old chemical container try to find out what it was used fr prior to using it. I also had my water tested in mine after I let the water sit for 2 months. Also soaking it and allowing it to clean out for a short time is good too. However these containers can be purchased new.

So I fixed and got all my rain water system in order to use on my garden. This one holds 275 gallons or can soak my garden pretty good two times.

So as you can see, the warm weather is bring out the best everywhere. I got some work done even after all the rain yesterday/last night.

I am running behind in my plans for this spring, I need to get the coop built in order to catch up and be on time. I replained the drain clean out to just after planting season in the garden.

Plants are now being hardened off, looking good..... :thumbsup

I wonder if that is why I haven't had much success with my fruit trees. How close is too close? I have a very mature butternut that is maybe 40 feet away.

Free.... The book mentions more than 25 feet, but depends on fruit tree. Some fruit trees like G mention, pears are not bothered my the Juglone. Its best to look up for each speices of your trees.

Awww, cute fuzzy butts!!! Thanks for the Mothers Day wishes. To your wife as well.

Can I ask a question about our potatoes??? When you add mulch/ straw to the basket how exactly do you do it. Do you add around the plants so they still show? Or do you cover the plants? Can I alternate what I am topping with? My last potatoes I hilled up and around the plants with just straw. I did not really like the result on the soil after. I know this basket is different because its ONLY potatoes. But can I alternate in some mulch/compost?

Does that make any sense?? G

Jay is addicted! Jay is addicted! (imagine my sing-songy voice taunting you)

Aren't the chickens great though? We haven't done babies yet but I really want an incubator to try to hatch some of my own eggs. Everything is looking good! Where did you get a tank that big?

Don't be going getting all excited :weee just yet, while building the coop, got it finished in 14 hours, same day, I took some photos and left the camera out in the rain. :ep Its a lot of work building the coop and run, but its done now. I hope the camera will be okay once it dries out. :fl

Yes, add around the plant and leave just an inch or so showing (leafy bits) the suckers are below the leafs, keeping the leafs uncovered allows the plant to feed itself. Alternate, yup, thats what I do. I use compost, mulch and straw. See if I had my camera I could show you, I am a butthead sometimes. With the thousands upon thousands of photos I have taken, I can say I never laid my camera down and forgot about it. :idunno

Wow, Lori your very talented and what a lovely singing voice. Me thinks you should try out for American Idol next Year. :thumbsup

We can get a similar tank here, both in the 275 and I think 350 gallon size. I thought about using them to collect my rain water. I could stack two high under my porch. House is over the garage. BUT, they cost a heck of a lot more than water does. Does not really make sense right now. Maybe if the cost comes down. Oh, they sell them on e bay as well.

Thanks for the potato info, jay. :)
