As I was driving home, the road was cut on the towards the left side of the mountain that I live on. As you approach the mountain, where a bridge crosses the RR tracks, there is a deer trail. I couldn't help but notice a fawn walking around, I pulled over and heard its mother on the top of the hill. The little one couldn't get up the hill, it was to steep.

I stayed away from it, got back in the truck and called the Game Warden local to me. He stopped by and picked me up so I could show him where I had seen it, we're also friends.

As we headed back down, I could see the fawn, it had been hit. Than he pointed out another fresh fawn kill on the other side of the road. Above this location would be dead mans curve that I told you about some time ago. People just don't want to slow down. :he :rant :he :somad

That Irish clover is stunning!

I love your photos! Everything looks beautiful!
I was really suprised that it came up, the seed was a free sample. When I think of clover, its just clover, I had no idea how pretty the irish clover would look. If it makes it through the winter, I think I will purchase some to plant around the whole flower bed I put in this year.

Great pics you have there. I love it all - Especially the Snake - picture me shuddering. LOL Actually I am guessing rat snake. I tried to blow the picture up but it pixilated so much could not get a good look at the coloring or the head. But from the long slender body and narrow pointed tail I am guessing non poisonous. Of course we all know I have been wrong before. Like the definite poisonious snake I killed last year that ended up be a nice friendly good snake.

(Awwww heck. Forget I posted. I can't be trusted. Well except around bacon.) Tee Hee Snicker Snicker.

Edited for numerous spelling errors. Probably missed a few - this Southern heat has fried my brain.

Yeah, thats a black rat snake. Good to have around for rodents, but they have a taste for chicks and eggs. Especially eggs(lots of folks call them chicken snakes).

:frow Hi lori glad to see your back from vacation, though you may not be. :hugs

Waste not want not;

Well I still haven't had the time or money to put up the fence around my garden. I am paying the price and the winter food store will take a hit. But there is some good news to help me, I am building a copper roof top for Johns Barn, several infact. I will use that money to pay for the auger rental. Its just almost impossible to dig thru the clay rocky soil to set the post. With my back the way it is, hand digging isn't a real option for me.

I am telling you, I was out early this morning to go sit at my post on the roof of my shop. Why?? Guard duty....

That pesky fat ground hog has been in my garden again, but it won't be for long. I am going to fry him up, and eat him with some greens. I don't mind ground hog stew, but I really likem fried the best. See the trick is to let him soak in some buttermilk for a few hours, it helps to get the gamey taste out. Ground hogs aren't on the top of my menu, mind you. But if I am going to harvest it, and I can eat it, its going into the pan.

As a child, I ate many a ground hog. Bobby would sit on the picnic table with his 30-30 watching the fields looking for one to harvest. I have had them many ways, but I don't likem after the have been in the fridge after their cooked.

I doubt my wife will eat it, she'll maybe try it  but I am ok with that. DS says he will warm up the skillet. DD ain't coming a within a foot of it.

So what we don't eat, I will make into spicey ground hog jerky. :drool

I have gathered 3 quarts of strawberries in the last two days, black raspberrys are starting to ripen, its almost jamming time. :celebrate We have been out for 4 or 6 weeks now, tho I don't mind peanut butter and butter/mayo/banana/apple butter, I miss my jam :hit

I decided to make one single batch of elderberry jelly this year.

Have a great evening.

I think we have ground hogs here....there are a lot of holes in the hill at the back of the property. My garden has not gone in yet, but it will be a good 100 yards from where they appear to be. Do you think I need something at the bottom of my beds to keep them out? I have only had to worry about bunnies in the past!

Good luck catching the little critter!
