Canning....more canning....Putting up the food stores....

Before everyone ask and wonder about food storage, many folks wanting to can their hard work have a question.

"when should I plant to have alike crops to can at the same time?"

Well the answer to that is left up to mother earth. I admit I am a canning fool, well rounded in water bath and the pressure department. I even dehydrate all the time, depends on whats needed.

Mother earth is always going to do her thing, we want to work around her, but she is in control. I also have done my best to work with mother earth and her cycles. But like you I am guessing to what the weather might be.

I kinda take the zone charts at heart, and expect the worse.

They have been up to good since three days ago. I found ten eggs today, checked their combs three days ago, felt like a couple were ready to go. But thought about age.... I missed this one.....

As with all young chickens, the eggs will get better, but another step towards being SS has been rewarded.:weee

For some reason I have missed your journal until now. I enjoyed reading it, though I skipped a few pages.
I just want to comment on deal with your little girl and the 17 year old. I am glad you trusted your instincts. Most of the women and many men I know have been molested as children, myself included. Most of them won't talk about it either. It is a confidence shared only by others who have experienced the same thing.

Teach both your children to trust their "Oh Oh" feeling. Kids usually do have a sense of something not being right. Unfortunately until not so many years ago, adults did not "hear" their children, when they tried to tell the adults that something "funny" was going on. And I think in many communities, that is still the case.

I know a lot about the subject. And managed to keep my daughter from being molested. And helped several of her friends who were.

Nice bunch of eggs!

So your girls just started laying? Can you explain what you meant about checking their combs? I have read that you can tell if a hen is ready to lay by her comb but I don't really get it!
