That's funny, I combined my coops last night. I started thinking about Turkeys. lol
Speaking of turkey, day after tomorrow, and its turkey time....

Little J made his mark today in the world of hunting. :celebrate

He harvested his first "wild" pheasant. :weee

I am not big on hunting state ground where they release dumb birds to kill.

There is some pride in hunting fields that aren't stocked, and bring home some game that was earned, not set out.

I have been out hitting the fields since day one, still under the state laws regs.. But have harvested a few to mention.

I covered 18 miles up and down hills in less than a week.....

Asking him where he'd like to hunt, he mentioned working a draw again. Birds often hold in draws for cover and food, often the mouth of the draw will hold birds that will hold in water and use the cover.

I was bone tired, and gave into his to request in hopes he would harvest one. Lazy/tired as I was, I started to flush when I heard the gunshot....

What do you know.... Little J had downed a hen, lucky shot... first time....

But there she was, harvested. He had done a good job and I couldn't be more proud.

Instead of cleaning my fowl tonight, we cleaned his together..... :celebrate

Just because his will taste better, doesn't make him a better hunter!! ;)

He earned that hen after miles of kicking fields well over his head. Never once giving up.

:weee

Spooled out the required orange to mark a blind, set it up and good to go...

There is a lot to be said about calling in fall turkey, not to mention a atv drive by numb nuts.. :clap

Again, I am not into trophy hunting, big atvs that break down on the trail don't bother me.

Sure it frustrates me at times, but it what it is.... I always find a way to adapt...

I often think being clever is better than being bitter......

This way, I am keeping a step ahead of stupid people, and they think they know it all..

I set the blind up for no reason at all, and it is what it is, a blind. Hunting from ones safety zone,
it is what it is, make the hunt happen. :plbb

What?.....

I did set up the blind, even put up the marker tape....

Folks we are talking fall turkey....

You and I know you can't call in a fall turkey, its a foot hunt...

For the giggle, and response, I set it it up for a hoot.

They still drove around all day today, ripping up and down the hill, even tore up some dirt beside my blind.

For those of you asking/need understanding of this matter, let me explain some turkey 101 details.

I did this as a prank to get a rise out of some local stupid people, it is what it is, a prank...

In the spring you can sit and call in a turkey, during the fall, the two different sex groups remain with each other.

In order to harvest a turkey during the fall, here, you will have to kick it up.

I was just having some greenhorn fun is all, and it worked...

I still think being clever is far better than being angry... :plbb

Sorry.... Getting beyond my prank and keeping with my ss way of life should be important. I made the prank, and its was just a belly buster, so I wonder? Who is the city slicker now?

Just because you own some land doesn't make you a farmer, to be a farmer you have to work the land.

Just because your not into hunting/gathering off your land, doesn't mean others aren't trying to feed their family.

Just because you want to hunt big trophy bucks still doesn't mean I will allow your family to hunt on my property.

Just because I am feeding my family with the food that I am gathering/hunting, and you want the big ole 10 point, not on my watch.... :ya

What???? A deer has what range of travel?

Keeping with my ss goals, I spent yesterday working beef.... From roast to bologna.. It was hard work cutting and making cold cuts to eat, as well as learning and making different roast.

I hung the last few bologna in the smoke house this evening...

Dang...... Making your own is harder, but at least I know what were eating.... :woot

Here is 20 pounds of sausage/bologna that I processed over the last couple days.

I made four different kinds, two I have made before, and one a modified recipe, and a new bbq and cheddar cheese bologna. I want to do a meatloaf flavored one next time. Hmmmm meatloaf cold cuts, with a hint of smoke. :drool

How much closer could I live?

So here we are, the internet is a wonderful thing.

If you wanna ask me about woods to use for smoking? Well that depends on your taste, use apple if you hate pumpkin pie, use hickory if you love bacon.

I do have a video coming up on you tube in the next week, I just haven't had time to get it done. Maybe that will help you in your smoking adventures... :)

MP that looks so good. I sure wish I could get my DH to work as hard on the food stuff as you do. Oh well..... I guess I will live vicariously through you. I'll just sit her and look at the pics of all that smoke rolling out of that smoker and conjur up smells in my head.

Can't wait to see your new video.
