Ooo, that makes me so mad when something I want gets clear cut! It's silly that I have to keep my mint in pots instead of the ground because someone mows it down every year. Hibiscus is lovely and makes great tea! I would make him replace it.

I will replace the hibiscus and put a pretty decorative fence around it next time. I don't have time to be mad at him :p

The fair is on! I think I'm more excited than my kids. It just started yesterday and unfortunately the temps will be in the upper 90's all week with high humidity. The term the weather guy used was 'oppressive' Great. My body does not take heat well at all so we will not spend much time there beyond the show. DD is showing her rabbits this year. I don't think we will ever do much more for 4-H simply because the fair is during what is the hottest time of the year. That sucks, because I love the fair. I could live there. It is really the one place I feel truly comfortable around people, because they are like us. (for the most part - some of the rabbit folks have 'pet rabbits' which they let live inside and walk on leashes and gasp if you mention eating rabbit)

Our fair is very small because our county is mostly urban, and they put all the animals except dairy and horses in one barn here. But you just never know who you might run into and we had a 'it's a small world' moment yesterday. We ran into my 4-H leader from when I was a kid! Now - this is amazing because I grew up an hour north of here! Turns out his daughter, who was in my class in high school lives down here now and her kids are in 4-H too! We had a good time remembering and talking and he couldn't believe all the stuff I am doing now. I love the fair.

We have a big fair in our county, with a barn for each animal type. I love it there, but haven't gone as much as I'd like because it has gotten so expensive. We did go a couple years ago and found our dairy goats there.....so we are forever grateful for that. But I do feel more like folks at the fair are "my" kinda folks, I know what you mean.

I hope it isn't as hot today as they predicted and you can enjoy your day there!

Unfortunately heat is only getting worse. I lasted a whole 30 minutes at the fair yesterday before I decided to come home :p The kids were riding rides with DH and since I have to be there all day today for the show, I didn't want to stress my body too much. I already have a slight headache from being out milking this morning. My shoes that I left on the porch were wet from the humidity in the air. It's going to be a loooong day.

Our fair has some of the most pathetic goats I have ever seen. There are a few meat goats and then about 10 dairy goats, 5 of which are Alpines and enormous! There is a Nigerian there with a bad udder - half of it is dragging on the ground and it just looks sad. I'm not sure why in the world someone would bring it to the fair.

We're baking here too, but at least our humidity is low. Well, low compared to you. 37% is HIGH for us! :hide

Oh, make two while you are at it, can you? BLTs are my absolute favorite food, even though I shouldn't really have much bacon. Can you make me one with just a wee bit of bacon?

*Takes the sandwich Java made for herself, chomps it down while Java looks on, a little surprised at SD's hunger.*

What can I say? I haven't had any ripe tomatos from my yard and I couldn't wait. :hide

SD clears throat and looks embarrassed, wipes chin.

That is weird people would take goats like that to a fair. At our fair, the goats were all so highly groomed, shaved and bathed. Even our goats had baths before they went. I think those are the only baths they ever had in their lives. :gig But we have an active 4H community, I think they pretty much run the goat fair stuff at our fair. They had all these interesting posters and material about goat care, etc. We originally learned how to take care of our goats and set up our barn by hanging out at the fair goat barn three years ago. I'd like to go again but since I can't hear now I don't think I'd get as much out of it, so much background noise there.

Hubby was complaining about our "cold summer" this year and I reminded him what so much of the country is enduring. We still haven't had too many days of sunshine, but our temps are in the 70s. I have NO complaints about that. But we have had a tremendous amount of rain for July. The have a giant street festival in a nearby city, and this year it RAINED all over them and all their booths. So 70 degrees can certainly have its drawbacks too. It just hasn't felt like summer.
