..and in other small farm news, I noticed that both of the goats are already waddling - only 2 months into gestation. One of them looks like a large football in the tummy area. Doesn't help that's she's brown. It's gonna be a looong winter
Yes! We got our first duck egg this morning. Small and covered in poo, but it was in their coop. These ducks were from a June 1 hatch and i was starting to think they would wait until spring.
And about half of the chickens are laying again, so that's a relief. 8 eggs a day out of 14 hens for the last few days.
I have learned to watch my hands when feeding the piranhas, er... goats in the morning. Good think i had my work gloves on or I would have lost a few fingers. The way they rip into that hay is a little scary I'm just glad there was s fence between us. i need a sign that says something like "beware of the hormonal goats"
Congrat's on the egg!!! My girls are moulting. It kinda looks like someone got eaten down there. Feathers everywhere. I can't wait for my eggs to com back.
My Ginger looks like a football, too! And eating like a ....fish.
Congrats on the duck egg....mine seem to ALWAYS lay their eggs in poo. Isn't that just the duck way? Only the broody one has them in a nest and since I've been taking them she tries to hide where she lays them. Why does the first egg get us so excited? We knew it was coming. But I did the happy dance for my little green EE egg appearing the other day, too.
My June girls haven't started yet. It's been cold and cloudy so they might not start unless we get some more sunshine.
I take that back....I found a hidden nest this morning There was a little egg in with the big monster eggs! Also hubby got a double yolker for breakfast so it looks like the newbies are on the assembly line!
