:gig Becca you are funny!

It was a terribly unhealthy day foodwise. I never did break out the protein. Tomorrow I must go back to lower carb. Thank goodness the sweets are all gone.

I bought some pasture raised chickens from a friend last month to see just how good they taste. But after my wolves - I mean children - devoured the first one I cooked in approx 10 minutes as I looked on in shock, (it WAS like a pack of wolves :p) I knew I would have to do things differently. That chicken was simply too expensive to have it be devoured in 10 minutes.
So today I put one in the slow cooker/crockpot with the intent of making something Mexican and casserole-y tomorrow. I turned it off to let it cool so I could remove the meat from the bones and when i finally pulled it out of the pot, the meat literally fell off the bones. Every singe bone from that bird was 100% clean. I have never had that happen before! Now that's some tender delicious chicken. :drool

And yes, i will be raising a batch of meaties next year. I don't think i can do the creepy white ones, so i'm going to go with the Freedom Rangers. Unless the new feed store that i love has a deal during spring chick days that i can't pass up. ;) It's too expensive buy local free range chicken to feed 5 people (more like 7 people because 2 of the kids are adolescent eating machines)

Little rant.
AEP has started sending out these "helpful" energy usage comparisons for our area that tell you how much energy your household is using compared to the other homes on our street/block. Ours flat out days that we use the most energy on our part of the street and then it gives us lots of tips on how to reduce our usage. :barnie
First of all, I live in the only house on my end of the road where someone is home all day, every day. Of course I'm going to be using more electricity! I also have the most people in the household - most of the homes have one or 2 people in them - and those people are not home much because they work. Then we have a pool which takes electric to run 5 months out of the year. If they want to do a comparison, then lets run all the variables!
I just want to :smack.
Maybe they'd be interested to know that I have a 10 year old van with under 100k miles on it and I only fill it up 1 or 2 times a month because I don't go out much. Kinda offsets some of my home energy usage IMO.
I didn't ask for these letters, I don't want these letters. It's a small waste of the money I'm paying them for ELECTRIC.

:old And while I'm at it, I don't need letters from the PO telling me about their services and how to avoid ID theft either. Talk about waste. :tongue

I can't believe it's December. The sudden change in weather from temps in the 50's and rain on Nov. 30 to snow on December 1 helped a little though :)
My goats are now halfway through their pregnancies :ep Wow. Their bellies are expanding and hanging lower. They both have always had at least twins, but the brown one did have quads once. I'm hoping we don't have any quads. Neither goat will allow me to touch their belly. I was hoping I'd get to feel the kids kicking here in a few weeks but these goats get a crazy look in their eyes when I go for a feel :p Scary.
I need to build a kid warming box and get a light since they will most likely come in a blizzard. They are due around Valentine's day and we almost always have a huge snowstorm that week.
My hay guy said the best heat lamp ever is from Premier. He's a firefighter and said this is the only lamp he would ever use in his barns - it passed every test they put it through. The whole department uses them.

We still have only one duck out of four laying, but she's very regular. 2 small eggs, then one really big egg, then a day off, repeat. I like the duck eggs. DH decided to hard boil some this week to see if he likes them and after his first one he said "ick" So I tasted it and honest to goodness, I could not detect a big difference from a chicken egg. I liked it better actually. It's hard to describe, but I guess it tasted eggier - if that's a word? Disclaimer is that DH eats hard boiled chicken eggs every day and I do not, so he's used to a certain flavor I guess.
I hope the rest of the ducks start laying soon. The eggs really are good for baking.

I have to watch our duck egg consumption cause hubby had a very bad reaction to duck eggs. Now he is freaked out by any egg....so frustrating cause I used to be able to make omelets and bacon for dinner but now he won't eat them at all. Grrrrrr. What kind of ducks do you have?

Oh my! That's odd - you usually hear people can't eat chicken eggs, but are OK with duck.
I have Welsh Harlequins.

My husband puked for the entire day after eating duck eggs....then 2 days later my mom was in town and fried up some eggs for breakfast and he didn't think to ask her WHICH eggs she used until he had eaten a whole fried one.....yep, used the duck eggs. He puked all day then too. Ever since then he won't eat eggs and even feels funky if I make bread for him with duck eggs. I think it is mental but then again I've never been that sick over an egg.

We have runners....they lay like crazy! :D

I'm allergic to chicken eggs and part of why I got ducks was that I heard some people are not allergic to duck eggs even if they are to chicken.
Well, I'm not one of those folks. I'm not as reactive to duck eggs but I'm still allergic. Guess I'm just lucky. :he

I still like my ducks though, and I'm sure not allergic to muscovy breast.

Duck eggs are very good. I've sold them to a lot of different people. A couple people thought they tasted too rich, but most everyone else loved them.
