What a weekend! Saturday we went to Ohio, to the In-laws, They have a few trees that needed trimming. All total we trimmed 7 trees..enough to fill the bes of our truck with branches. It only took about 1 1/2 hrs. Not too bad....but it was hot! After we finished hubby and I got cleaned up, and we sat and visited for a few hours. MIL made dinner...and it was just a nice easy day. I should have known...I would pay for it later! LOL
This morning...I got up at 4 am, it was hot in the house. We are trying to give the AC a break when we can. I was able to nap off and on from 5 till 7, then I had to get up. Had my coffee and headed outside. Took the truck over to the barn, and unloaded the branches into the goat and sheep pens. They sure were excited to have all those maple and willow branches. Saved me from haveing to throw hay as well! Got them all situated for the morning, then took on the poultry coops. I was able to get a small pool for the ducks...so I got it out and filled it for them. Ungratefull bratts!! They wanted to play in the mud i made trying to hit the pool with the hose. Jeesh! So...I just filled it and walked away before I grabbed them and drowned them! Then took the hose to the small garden. I flooded the carrotts so it was easier to get them all pulled. Not alot...but enough for 3 pints, and a bowl of slaw.
Pulled the last of the onions, they are drying on the porch...tomorrow I will get them in storage in the garage. I also picked a large bowl of brussel sprouts. :D
By this time hubby was up, and drinking coffee on the porch, so I joined him for a cup. He decided it was a good day to clean my truck, wash, wax. Woohoo! I just love when he cleans my truck! LOL So while he cleaned I started pulling weeds in the big garden. I am FINALLY caught up on the weeds! I ran the hose for the peas and green beans...then gave hubby the hose for the truck. I came inside to can the carrotts...and decided I wanted cole slaw with dinner, so back to the garden for cabbage. Got 2 small heads. After the carrotts were in the canner...I started on the brussel sprouts. Got them cleaned and ready....then went out to check on hubbys progress. He was finishing up with the waxing. I was looking through the garden when I noticed there were several ears of corn ready, so I picked them for supper as well. So supper was a small steak, with pearl onions from the garden.....brussel sprouts, cole slaw, and corn on the cob...all from the garden. We ate like we havent eaten in weeks! It was so good, and fresh...we cleaned our plates. I am headed up in a few to put a peach cobbler in the oven. :drool That should finish out this day pretty well.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! We did!

OK, so I am a clutz! Most everyone that knows me...knows that for a fact. So, yesterday I decided to fry up a chicken for dinner. This was one of the ones I butchered....and I was drooling to think of how good it would be. So, I got the water going, ( I like to parboil my chicken before frying so I know its done inside) Filled the pot with hot water...and as I moved it to the stove, spilled some on my foot. OUCH! Wipe the mess, and continue with dinner. Potato salad sounds yummy...so I started the taters and eggs. Went to get the eggs out, and plop! Well darn! Come here doggies, get the egg. :/ Got that mess cleaned up. Once the chicken was parboiled...I removed the pot, CAREFULLY, to the sink. I got the frying pan on the stove, getting the grease hot....and had to take a "mother nature" break. Once I was in the bathroom, I noticed the sink needed a good rinsing...so, forgetting the pan on the stove, I tackled the sink. Whats that smell?? BURNING GREASE! UGH! I ran to the kitchen, kicking the dog in the process..YIPES, YIPES!! Im cursing the dog for being in my way...get to the kitchen and remove the pan, covering it with a lid. Whew, disaster diverted! Once the grease cooled...I replaced it with fresh grease, and this time I watched it like a mother hen.Battered the chicken, and placed it in the hot grease...not too hot, so no popping...yet. The eggs were done, so I pulled them and placed them in a sink of ice water for peeling. Just as I turned around to turn the chicken, POW!!! BAM!!! OUCH!!! Grease explosion! My hand, arm and foot were covered with boiling hot grease. Again, I curse, cover the pan, and lower the heat. I guess that chicken was getting in one last punch. Finally got dinner put together...no more OUCHIES! But, I have a nice blister on my arm. YUK! What a way to start the week!
So, today...it was HOT HOT HOT!! Severe heat advisory. UGH! I had to get the mowing finished, so I started early. 9 am I am on the mower...and sweating like crazy. YUK! Finally get it all finished up and came inside to cool down. Hubby had errands to do, so I ran to town to buy tomato and lettuce for our burgers. Made dinner...got his lunch packed...and was headed out the door to water the animals when my son pulled in, with the 2 grandbabies. Guess I will water later. :/ We visited for a while, hubby went to work, then I told my son i HAD to water the animals. I told him he could keep the baby in the house, I would take the oldest with me. ( he is 10) So we head out to get the hoses together...and I start watering. Thats when I noticed that the sheep and goats had almost completely eaten all the grass from the new paddocks, and since we have had no rain..it didnt look good. I just HAVE to finish the paddock seperating fences. Got the watering done, and my son decided to leave...leaving me to wrap up the 300+ ft of water hoses. Then I decided to get at least one fence finished...so with my gloves, I grab the post, and the post hole digger. All I needed to do was put in the post, tighten the fence to it, and that one would be done! Easy...right?? Well...yes, if your not a clutz like me. I get to the pasture...and start digging. Now, I wear canvas slip ons....almost all the time. I know, not a great farm shoe...but easy to slip on and off and wash. So, Im trying to dig, in this 100+heat, trying to NTO get the sheeps noses...they are so very nosey when I am doing anything out there...when IT happens. I came down with the post hole digger....on my foot!!! OUCH! Now, because I have cheap shoes...I just couldn't bear to look. It hurt...REALLY hurt!!! Finally I looked down...the end of my shoe is still there. Thats a good thing...I dont see wetness...so no blood? Good sign. I step back, and slowly take off my shoe. Man that hurts! Nothing! Just a red mark. Really??? I was expecting to pull my foot out minus a few toes! I get my shoe back on, and finished the post...standing spread eagle this time! :p So, One fence done...tomorrow morning I need to get the compressor outr, and the cut off wheel...to cut one of the cattle pannels. Wish me luck!

ow Debbie! I know what you mean when you hurt yourself and you think there will be buckets of blood and the skin isn't even broken - such a surprise, but a good one.

I'm exhausted just reading about your day! hope things go more smoothly tomorrow.

Man are you clumsy! Wow I am sure glad that I am not clumsy like you are. How do you stay alive? ....

NO I am not saying that stuff about YOU!!! Certainly not! I am just saying some of the stuff people tell ME! :ep

I mean really. Trip over a sickle bar mower, impale your self on a pitch fork trying to get a turd off of the tines and slam your head in the car door a couple of times and you just never hear the end of it!!

Take care of yourself. We got to stick together!! :gig ;)
