QA, of COURSE you can stay here! There were people coming from PA, DC, MA, KY.....all over the place to work this job. They stayed in tents at the near camp site. Of course...I have a spare bedroom...and if there happened to be any "critters" that need "mommy care" You could bring them as well. ;) I am hopeing today to go get the pannels, T posts, and gates I need to finish the 2 paddocks for rotational grazeing. This will give me 4 paddocks. :D So, there will be 2 open paddocks. ;) Im telling ya, this is a great gig...and I pray I get picked for November as well as March and May.

If you have a military base near you...look for thier web site. MOST have them. Then search for "Urban Training" I bet there are some going on near you. OR, watch Valbin's web page. They post when, and where they will be working next.
Yesterday, hubby and I took the flatbed trailor and went to Rural King. :p It was hard to let go of the money I worked so hard for...however, we bought all we needed to get the next 2 paddocks put in.
11 cattle panels (16 ft long)
20 T posts
3 gates
4 wood posts ( for the gates to hang on)

Hubby said he wants to get that done today...or at least started! :D My goats and sheep will have fresh pasture, and I wont have to throw hay. PLUS, with rotating them, I wont have the parasite issues. I am so excited.
On the down side.....I came home to find Pebbles, the mini goat, in with the boys. I guess in my rush to get them fed so we could leave, I forgot to latch the gate between them. I have no idea how long she was in there with them...or IF Bambam was able to breed her. I am praying he didn't. If so, she will have a December baby. UGH!!!! I dont have electric in the barn for heat lamps. I dont think she is in "season" but I guess I wont know for a few months. DARNIT!!!
I still have enough left of my check to get the shocks for my truck. All 4 of them are leaking. Jeesh! My mechanic told me to " stop treating my little truck like a big truck" LOL I guess I will get the heavy duty shocks. LOL
I am going into town later to get a new pressure cooker. Mine is warped! The bottom looks like a balloon!!! Scared me! That just means it was not far from explodeing. :hide
My potatoes are looking pretty good...and the corn is FINALLY getting small ears on. I might just yet have something to can! LOL
I was able to get one row of beets planted...hopeing to get the others in later today as well. I really hope we get a good crop of beets. Last year we got almost nothing from them. I sure miss my pickled beets!!
Time to get hubby up, and coffeed up, so we can get busy. He has to leat at 2 pm for work...so we need to get busy NOW! LOL

Our corn has done amazingly well this year. We put drip irrigation down and were the only ones at the Farmers' Market who had corn with lush green shucks.

BTW - congrats on the great summer job - Urban Training. Sounds like a lot of fun, except for the heat, of course. Isn't is great when you can collect a check big enough to pay for the "extras", like food, cattle panels, shocks.

So, I ran into town to get my pressure canner. My son met me at Wal Mart, so he could "buy it" with his discount. I had to get coffee and creamer as well. So, I go to get the canner, and there is an empty space on the shelf!! My heart sank. All this time I have been wanting one, didnt have the money, and there were several on the shelf. Now, I get the money, and none. My son walks up and asked what was wrong? I pointed, but almost couldn't speak. He laughed a little and said.." Doesnt that figure"? I was so dissapointed. He then started yelling for the gal that works in the department, and asked her..." If there are no more, why is there NOT a dot on the tag? " She scanned it and said...." Probably because I have 2 more in the back" :D My little heart skipped a beat. So, we walked to the back, and sure enough, she came out with 2 more canners. 16 Qt, for $63.00 I know, thats high, but I really needed one! So, I gently took one from her, and placed it in my cart. You would have thought it was a dozen eggs..I was so carefull with it, like it would explode if I wasn't! I felt like a kid at Christmas!
I came home to find hubby up, and ready to go get started on the fence. :D We was able to get the paddock in for the goats. They now have a second area... 40x40. There is lush green grass in there...and after I led them through...they were wagging thier tails and loveing it! Tomorrow I am hopeing to get the sheep pasture done. Hubby said we will of course build 2 more shelters...so I wont have to mess with running them into the other pasture when it rains. They will have a full 30 days to each pasture.
I pulled a few carrots the other day, and was able to use my new canner! I canned 3 pints of carrots. They are so pretty sitting there on the counter. Altho...I have to say..I used the Tattler lids..and im not sure how to tell if they are sealed!? The metal ones is easy...they bend...and pop. These are plastic...so I am not sure. Hmmm, I might have to call Tattler tomorrow, unless someone out there has used them and can tell me!?
I need to get some water on the newly planted beets...check animals waters..then I can get my shower, make coffee, and dare i say...relax?

Hubby and I worked on the goat pasture yesterday. We were able to get it done enough to let them in, but was not able to get the divider fence up and the gate. So, for now they have access to both paddocks.
Today we were able to get the last paddock set up, and let the sheep in there. Hopeing tomrrow to get the gates up. Then........we will have to build 2 more shelters....THEN we will be done...I think.
Funny thing...as hubby was diging the hole for the gate post...Casper walked up and stood between hubby and the hole. Then Casper went down on his knees...and stuck his head down the hole. He just kept his head in there...I guess it was cool. I tried to get my camera, but he pulled it out before I could get a pic. Silly goat.I can tell ya, they are very nosy creatures, and if you are trying to work in thier pasture, you wont get alot done!!! :/
Hubby was getting a little frustrated trying to work around them.

Its not a great pic, but you can tell where the old paddock ends, and the new ones begin. They are loveing all the fresh green grass.
After we finished the paddock I came in and got supper finished for hubby. Packed his dinner up, and got him sent off to work. I thne got on the mower, and was able to get most of the yard mowed. Let the mower rest in the shade, while I ran the water hoses to the sheep and goats. Ahhh, fresh clean, cool water. I was hoseing down my arms and legs too. Whew it was hot out there today! Finished with them, then went to the big garden, pulled a few weeds, and ran water to it. Disconnected 2 of the hoses...and ran water to the smaller garden. Then I came in and collapsed! :th
I still need to go check waterers for the chickens, turkeys, and ducks....then get my shower..clean the kitchen while my coffee brews..and yes, I will then relax! Well, after I start a load of laundry, to hang out overnight. Sheets. I just love hanging them overnight, then straight to the bed! Ahhhhhhhh.
