So, this guy has been hanging around for a few days.

He sure is pretty...but one thing I DONT need is another rooster!!
I did put down some feed and water in the smaller coop walk area...so he will at least be fairly safe. My goal is to get him to go in there at night, and finally catch him. ;)
So, round 2 of the guests have come and gone. Whew! My sister is supposed to be here this evening, and stay for the weekend. I am planning to get her to help me can some of the pork! ;) She wants to help, so thats a good thing.
Then on Sunday, a dear friend wants to finally come to the farm. She has never been here and wants to come see " how things work" LOL Luckily she will only be here for a few hours. No overnighter!! Whew!
The 18th we will go to Louisville,KY to my baby sisters for her Thanksgiving dinner. It will be nice to have someone cook for me for once! LOL However, I will still have the big dinner here as well...so I need to get started on the cookies and such for THAT dinner.
Animals are all fed and watered....hay has been thrown...kitchen cleaned...now to get to the laundry and strip the bed for my sisters arrival. UGH! Does it EVER end!?? I want to start my spinning again...as soon as I get some free time. LOL

I gotta post that on WB thread!!! She had chicks hatch today!!!!

He is a pretty fellow though, and sooner or later you will get him!! I am aiming to get everything wrapped up this weekend, just before winter. Snow is the forecast but it won't stick and I have one flower bed left to finish up.

I think it has been 16 or so years since I haven't cooked turkey day, except 2006 when I had dinner at the folks house. I helped Linda out because we cook good together. She found great joy in cooking and we shared that together as our way of spending a little time together.

MP, yup, I like the wee ones too! I have 24 eggs in the bator now. What was I thinking!??? LOL They are Bantam Cochins, and Silkies. I guess by the time spring comes, these will be a great size for sales. ;) I saw someone near me had Burbon Red turkey eggs for sale. Hmmmmmmm, not sure I want to start poults this late, they sure are sensitive little things.
What a good feeling to get things wrapped up for winter. I am almost there! Need to put plastic over the coop windows...do one more GOOD cleaning in there, and get the water heaters all up and checked. THEN I will be ready...I think. LOL
I will cook Thanksgiving dinner...still. However I will have one Thanksgiving dinner before then, I wont have to cook! LOL Im lovin it!

Sure am! I found 3 hornets nests around the shop and coops! They are pretty high up there, but I am planning to get the neighbor to help me remove them once we get a few more freezes. I want one to display in the house....after I am SURE they are all dead of course! LOL NOW I know why we had so many hornets buzzing around this summer. Jeesh! 3 of them!!
I still havent had the time to get my garden put to bed...man oh man...it never seems to stop around here. Cam home last night to find a FOX snooping around the coops. Last week there was a coyote across the road, in broad daylight! The predators are coming in...have to be on my toes now. Dangit!

Which kind of hornets nest? Depending on what kind it is, did you know that if you leave them there, it will discourage other hornets from making a nest there next year?

I am pretty sure they are the Bald Face Hornets. The 3 nests are all within 100 ft of each other. From what I understand...after the first good freeze...the workers die off, and the queen goes to find a warm place to overwinter. I was reading something about spraying the branches to remove the phermone scent, to discourage them from rebuilding. I have to go back and read some more on that.

So, over the last weekend, my sister and BIL came to stay for a few days. The plan was....we would get some meat canned...she would help with chores....and we woule just have a nice visit. Well....we had a nice visit. :/ No meat canned...and by the time these city slickers got out of bed...I had the chores done. I mean really....do they think I can leave everyone locked in and unfed untill after 11 am!??? Jeesh! Oh well...I really DO enjoy the peacefull time in the morning just me and the animals. We are all wakeing up together.
So, Saturday....my sister wanted to go into town. Unfortunately...she brought her dog, a 2 yr old female Boxer. Now...as for her getting along with my dogs...not a biggie. She was terrified of my Poms! LOL However, I didnt want to leave them all runnin the house while we were gone, so I suggested we put her in the garage. Ohhh, no..." she is domesticated, and it would be too cold for her" REALLY!?? ALL Dogs are "domesticated" Jeesh! So, she begged me to let her stay in MY bedroom...assureing me she would be a "good girl" SO...I let her stay in the bedroom...and came home to my carpet SHREDDED!!!!! :barnie A 5x5 ft area...shredded! I can't believe it. Then my sister just looked at me and said...Oh, wow, im sorry. :/ She didnt offer to help pay to replace it. At least we can keep that door shut when guests come, untill we can afford to replace it.
As for the hornets....3 HUGH nests!! They are all bigger than soccer balls. Like...twice the size! I can't waite to get them from the trees..and have one to display in the living room. What a neat conversational piece! Now I have to waite untill we get more cold weather...just to make SURE they are all gone.
So, I think I sold 3 of my sheep. :fl I had advertised them for $100. each, or $200 for the trio. ( I really need to get them gone, or in the freezer) I have a woman coming Monday..said she will bring cash, and wants them all. :D She is really getting a good bargain....I am pretty sure one of the Ewes will lamb this spring. She was exposed to my Ram and he was "happy to see her" ;)
This weekend I am going to try to get some pork canned. I hope it works out. I have 4 trays of tomatoes drying now...and another 20 or so tomatoes to go. I might have to get the other dehydrator going as well...Just to get them all done before they start to rot!

That's horrible about your carpet! And no, leaving those nests won't discourage others from building a nest next year. But, according to folk lure, you can predict how much snow you'll get during the winter by how high in the trees they are, the higher they are, the more snow you're going to get.
