Someone else mentioned having someone move your cars around, which we do when we go on vacation; the neighbor that feeds the cats & chickens has keys to DH's truck, & moves it to different parts of the yard or driveway. 'Course, you probably wouldn't do this if you're just going out for a few hours....:)

SKR8PN, when my mom died many years ago, we had someone stay at the house during the funeral, as creeps were checking out obituaries & robbing houses when they knew the family would be at the cemetary. So now we have to have guards at burned-out houses as well? Jeez...

Our neighbors would be more likely to call the police on us than on a criminal. I know from experience hmm
ohmigosh! i'll bail you out, baby!

my good neighbors tell everyone they dont an alarm system - or their (slightly ineffective) dogs - because they got me!

they get calls like this from me:

"why is your teen home at 11am"

"who drives a white car and is parked at your house?"

"are you ok, you didnt drive your car to work?"

"is someone supposed to be standing in your field by the cows?" (that was the vet)

and

"that gal who is supposed to be staying at your house isnt there at feeding time - do you want us take care of your barnyard?"

It really makes you wonder just what kind of a person would do that to a grieving family.

The phone company has been working on putting all the lines underground here in our area. They came through this past summer, buried the new cable, and are now taking the old overhead wires down. I just went out to get the paper and chatted with the work crew for a minute. I commented on how much scrap copper they were getting, and the one fellow told me that yesterday, a truck with two guys in it stopped and tried to steal the cable that they had just dropped. They were only about a hundred yards away, so the would be thieves didn't get a chance to get anything, but it still takes cajones to try to steal big heavy copper wires while the crew was still in sight!!

:ep Good grief!

I'd love to have neighbors that look out for our best interest. They just don't. However, they are gone alot, so criminals would have a much better chance over there. They also have a huge tell - they turn on their porch lights. It's like a signal. We know we can party and burn trash when they turn it on
