Wow, that is awful about the Bruner company! Ashtabula is all about little small time farmers! There is definetly a lot more land out your way verse Trumbull County but, it would put us to far out from family and church. We are looking at the Gustavus area right now though.keljonma said:Hey, Sylvie! DH and I grew up in Lake County and lived there most our lives. Two of my sisters still live in Lake County. We got transferred to Texas for almost 15 years, and first chance we got, moved back to NE Ohio. We lived in Madison for a year before we purchased here in Ashtabula County. We looked at property all over Lake County, but the taxes had doubled in some areas, and Madison's seemed to have tripled! The tax rate (and population) in Ashtabula County is much lower. We're in a very small town, and the people are terrific!sylvie said:Hi neighbor!
I live in the county next to yours (Lake) but must say yours is prettier. The property taxes are killin' us here. They tripled this year unexpectedly. It was nice running across this journal.
There is a lot of beautiful farm land available in Ashtabula County now. The thing I would caution about if you're thinking of purchasing land out here is to watch for Bruner Land Company. They buy up whole farms and then divide them into 2 to 5 acre lots for resale. They put so many regulations on the land use that a person is prevented from having animals in an agricultural region! One of my friends said Bruner told her she couldn't even have rabbits or chickens on the 5 acres she was thinking of purchasing from them! How bizarre is that?!
