Wow, you are just as busy as usual. The ornaments are just beautiful. Between those and the beanies you must never stop.

Your grandchildren are adorable!!

Have a great day.

We had a wonderful 1st Sunday of Advent worship service, where the candle of Peace was lit. It was youth Sunday, and the kids (elementary age through teens) did a fantastic job leading worship.

The teens provided a list of alternate gift giving for Christmas. Here are some of their ideas...

Donate to a local charity in another person's name and make a card telling them of the donation.

Donate to a specific mission or foundation that speaks to your family's heart instead of purchasing gifts for each other.

Buy a window or door to donate to the local Habitat for Humanity organization.

Buy a flock of chicks, ducks, geese, a hive of bees or a goat for Heifer Project in the name of a loved one.

Gather up any old gift cards and use the money still left on them to purchase toys for Toys for Tots annual drive.

TR is off work today. We are enjoying 50 weather today.... the 20 temps will return late tonight and SNOW is back in the forecast for later in the week.

This week-end is our Koinonia Ultreya and we will be going with Pat and Ron.

Have fun!

Temps are winter-like: highs in the low 20s. We have a couple inches of snow on the ground. We had rain before it got cold enough to snow, so everything is covered with a layer of ice under that snow. Our high this week-end is supposed to be 25!

TR has been working at the hospital. I've just been working on projects at home.

Ron and Pat were in NYC after Thanksgiving with Matthew and Alvina. Matt and Alvina went back to Liberia on Tuesday, and Pat and Ron were supposed to be home on Wednesday. If we don't hear from them, we won't be going to the Koinonia Ultreya this week-end. Tomorrow I am making Banana-Chocolate biscotti for the pot luck...if we go. TR has to work this week-end, so he doesn't care whether we go or stay home. If we stay home, Saturday after work is the village Christmas parade. :D

Stay warm!!

That biscotti sounds yum! I think your cold snap is meandering down here. We're supposed to get 2" and not get above freezing until middle of next week.

Ditto to that! And, we're also getting some colder temps, but not that bad. At least there's no snow in the forecast!

We had a great time at the Koinonia Ultreya! I took some Banana-Chocolate Chip and some Pumpkin-Chocolate Chip biscotti for the pot luck. During the ultreya there is an auction. Everyone brings items for the auction (new and/or used), you label and tape a brown lunch bag next to the item. Then everyone purchases tickets and puts their name on them. Then we all go around the tables putting a ticket or tickets in the bags of the items that we are interested in. Then one or two of the troubadours, usually Ron and Pat, dump the tickets of each item (one item is auctioned at a time) into a bowl and pick a winner for each item.

We took a large metal garden rooster statue for the auction and came home with a boxful of things...
--A clock that plays Christmas songs on the hour
--Some religious books - some for teens that I know are on my nieces' wish lists
--An old (1950's) 12" high electric plastic snowman
--A tin of homemade chocolate candies and truffles
--Some old doilies and linens from the 1940's
--A clay pot baking dish with cookbook
--Two concert tickets to see Soul'd Out in January at a church, which includes a chili/soup dinner, and we also got a cd of their songs

So we made out big time.

The biggest donation this year was a catered dinner for 10 people in the winner's home, the catering to be done by a local restaurant.

The ultreya is held at a church and worship and communion was held in the sanctuary, which was beautifully decorated and lit for the Advent/Christmas season.

The pot luck dinner and auction were held in their auditorium. We had a great time and got home about midnight. TR had to be at work by 7 am on Sunday, so he was a bit tired last night. :)

We have about 6 inches of snow on the ground and 8 more are in the forecast. The winds are between 25 and 30 mph, so the wind chill temp is near 20.

TR is back on modified nights this week (4:30 pm to 1 am)......

And our Christmas cactus bloomed this week-end! It is gorgeous!

Stay warm! Have fun!

I take it you are around the snow belt area. We are getting some snow and it is starting to accumulate but it isn't even measurable at this time. But if it keeps up, we will probably have a couple of inches. The wind is nasty though. I will be glad to get my chores done.

Sounds like you got some great things.
