I use the Interent for news.. but face it if power goes out, you will not for long have access to news.. so gather local friends that have shortwave or other source of news..

Other idea.. Our grown kids live in a large city.. rumor has it that large cities may shut down freeways in a crisis... solution? We had our kids change their address on drivers licenses to our ranch address 150 miles away were we have supplies.... So they can leave the city and come "home"

Be prepared!

We don't have internet connection or tv at home. We use the public library for internet. We also have radios in the emergency stock pile.

I guess if your kids live in the same state, it would be okay for them to use your address on their license. Our dd recently got a nasty letter from her resident state because she uses our address (in another state).

Of course, you're assuming they'll be "allowed" to leave if TSHTF, or have gas to get there...:/

My kids are instructed to keep the car gas tank full and to have 5 gallons stored in the garage at all times. That should get them to us. If it turns out not to be enough they only get to bring one car up.

This thought has occurred to me many times recently, which is why I have started picking up books on SS topics. At some point, I won't be able to look up how to do stuff online!

I have a tiny little netbook that I've been downloading SS things onto; I figure it takes so little electricity to recharge I can probably use my Xantrex battery charger (until it dies, of course; I wondered if I could get a solar charger). Other things I have printed out & stored in a 3 ring notebook.

I intended to get my ham radio license many years ago, but could never learn Morse code! :/ (altho I've heard it's not required anymore)

I haven't watched tv in 20 yrs.I have a thing called webtv for internet access. It is not a computer and i can't acess many things. However i can access and do print alot of survival info. such as i find here. When our satelites go down, even solar powered access will be useless...
There was a thread on here about using notebooks full of useful survival info for when tech. fails...Once China destroys/disables our satelites, all internet bets are off. As mentioned, SS books will be very useful as well as hands on experience...

My solution for ME?

I am getting off of the Interent "grid" now and learning how to make do with basic items, sustain my family on the ranch and NOT depend on the Interent... there is a whole world without the Interent and you can live it if you want to..

The Internet has been around for one brief generation.... LEARN how to make do without it as one day the TPTB will shut it down and control you! (ok you can make your own, but it wont be the same)

THOUSANDS of years people have managed without the Interent.. so can you.

The Interent is the biggest bubble yet! just look at how people are being snared for "convenience"
Peoples banking, shopping, selling buying, entertainment, socialism, communication, business transactions... need I say more? in the near future...

Soon, very soon you will be able to "copy/duplicate store and transport your soul/being" to other dimentions or places/time.... We are in a game people and the Interent is the porthole! So now you see why it will be controled.

I will just learn to "live" as a person.. I am tired of playing this game... its not fun anymore. I will just pretend the Interent does not exist! and enjoy my ranch!

Is it just me, or do you all find it ironic that someone is telling us to learn to live without the internet, by joining an internet forum, and telling us --on th internet--(s)he is getting off the internet grid ?.

Sorry, but i can live without the internet just fine. It is not my life, it is some entertainment and education for me. but it is not my life blood and I will not die if this 'vein' is cut.

Sorry, i just find this thread an oxymoron.
