OK, I'm jealous. Cockers are my favorite breed of dogs. Right now, I'm dogless, but when I get another dog, I want a black cocker (w/some white on the chest if possible so she'll match my cat :D) from sporting lines. Many years ago I had a cocker from sporting lines, and her coat was much easier to care for than one w/the show coat.

yes there is a BIG difference in the show cockers and the sporting ones, the sporting have a shorter cobbier body type and a shorter hair coat (but still long) and the show are leggier with long fine hair. mom is kinda upset how the breed has changed since she started showing/breeding 40+ years ago. she REALY dislikes the "puggish" look that their face has gotten. her favorite color was the blacks (that was the color she had as a kid) she always had 1 black. but she mostly had ascob and partys. and my favorite was dee, a red roan. when i was very young i saw a pure white cocker- it was beautiful. and i never forgot that dog and i always said if she heard of a white pup i wanted one, when i was @15 she had a lady call her and wanted to know why her 2 buffs had a litter of pure white pups. so we got a female pup out of that litter. at 8 weeks she was snow white!! but at 3-4 mos she looked dirty no matter how many baths i gave her. turns out she was a (rare at that time) red roan. if you look up artrue (sp??)cockers that is the main line my mom had. i wouldnt mind having a cocker again, but the ones i have seen are not very good examples of the breed.

I haven' really looked much. I just don't have the time to train one, nor the money to get one.

I haven't seen one in ages. That's another dog I've always liked. But, they're a bit bigger than I want.

they seem to be another breed that was a heavy hunting dog that turned into a show-only dog. now they have long silky hair and have no hunting instinct. but i would still like to have one as a pet.

Yep, people get a hold of some of these breeds and completely change them. I'm thinking that the lab and golden retriever will be next.

I hope not I just love those breeds. I currently have a lab and had a cocker and golden years ago. Too many " breeders" are in it for the money and don't do what is best to insure quality dogs. I'm getting attached just looking at the pics of Scooby, what a charmer.

yah scooby had fun at moms today. he realy likes her for some reason. :idunno

yah i dont know of any golden retrivers around here anymore that will hunt. people want them cause they are "pritty". there are people that still hunt labs here though. you have to ask and look for the people that have hunting lines. labs and some english pointers are what people use here mostly with a few german shorthaired pointers mixed in. and britney spaniels. i have never seen any of the setter breeds for years! almost all of the ads you see for dogs are #1: the little squeeky toy types #2: austrailen shepherds and border collies #3: labs and lab mixes #4: pit and pit mixes (aka bullys). there are others but those 4 are probly 75% of dog ads here.

ate dinner and then went to walmart for their 8pm sale to get movies for the kids. holy cow!! what rude people! :rant i am glad it just 1X a year. i am going to menards for their 5am sale, but then i should be DONE!!!!!
