I wanted to stop in and wish you a Happy New Year. :hugs I am sorry to hear about your duck. Your dh must be so sad. I have never had a rooster be that aggressive. I did have one that chased me but he didn't bother the hens.

Sorry about the fencing and bil. Just keep trucking on your own land doing your own thing. It will be better that way. I am sure 2011 is going to be a great year for you and yours.

You are heading the right direction with your health issues. It's just going to take a bit of time. Think of how long you have had these problems. They are not going to go away in the blink of an eye.

As for your munchkins. The holidays make even the most well behaved go a bit haywire. All of the excitement and loosing the normal routine. Just work on getting things back to normal. Who cares if you can't read to them. Sit them down and have them draw, color etc... it will help.

Thankfully mine go back to school tomorrow. :clap

Well I hope you feel better. Hugs :hugs

Well, evidently the great Rooster pummeling of 2011 was enough to shock my younger girls into laying some eggs

I found 2 small eggs this morning...obviously from some of the new girls. I have 2 with really plump combs so I'm pretty sure it was the Black Australorp and one of the red comets that laid them. I found them in the duck house though. Lazy birds don't wanna walk up the ramp to the nesting boxes in the chicken house. Oh well, it's fine I guess, they just get poopy if they are in the duck house :sick

I moved them into the nesting boxes inside the chicken coop so we'll see if they catch on

It is supposed to get colder again this week and the weather man described the beginning of next week as "interesting"....that's never good.

I'm worried about my eggs freezing. I have 7 eggs left, 4 duck and 3 chicken. They had better get their butts in gear!

I shot an email to my goat breeder and let her know what was going on and I'm waiting for her to get back to me with due dates for both of the girls.

Hubby just called me from Home Depot and bragged that Verizon was paying him $30/hr to shop today. Brat. I told him to pick up some wood glue for Thursday nights Beek mtg cause we are putting together the hives.

We went to church for a southern bluegrass gospel concert last night and it was good but someone obviously didn't do a soundcheck cause it was LOUD. So loud we ended up leaving at intermission cause the kids were miserable....Tyler was covering up his ears and crying it was so loud.

Oh, and it looks like we are getting a guitar and a violin. My husband's aunt got a violin 2 yrs ago but was unable to continue lessons when her carpel tunnel got really bad so she is going to take it to a friend and fellow violinist at church and have her tune it and make sure it's still okay and then let us know how much she wants for it. Hubbys cousin has an acoustic guitar that he no longer uses and wants to sell it to us. Hubby has always wanted to learn how to play so a friend from church is offering to teach him.

It'll be good cause the kids can start learning too. I think I may do the violin and work with DD and hubby will work with DS with the guitar. I am also thinking of getting them a decent sized keyboard for their birthday and maybe hubby's aunt can teach them how to play. She plays piano for the church and has an organ, keyboard and a baby grand in her house.

I think you will enjoy the guitar. I used to have one and while I have no talent, it isn't hard to strum a few chords on an acoustic and make a song or two.

We have bought a lot of musical instruments for our kids and the best advice I have for you on that is be ready for some BAD music at first and try to be encouraging. My kids teased each other about their lack of talent, so no one ever developed any! I think my husband may have said things like "Could you go in the other room to practice?" a few too many times. :/

I had to confine my DS to his room for a bit today. He pointed his new nerf gun at his sister and she screamed for him to stop it. When I told him to stop pointing it at people he pointed it at me. :somad I don't think so. It's on the top of the refrigerator and he MIGHT get it back tomorrow. I was able to remain calm and not knock him into next week, after a 10 minute break in his room he was told that if he didn't stop yelling and throwing things that he would not be allowed out of his room until daddy got home at 2pm. That cinched it.....he shaped right up.

When Chad got home he got in touch with his cousin and they are taking him squirrel hunting as we speak. Little turkey. :rant

Gonna make a pizza for dinner....I'm trying Bob's Red Mill GF pizza crust mix this time. The last mix I bought was from Gluten Free Pantry and it was not good.

Oh, just heard a gun shot!!! Dinner for tomorrow! There's another.....woo hoo! :celebrate

I just made the Bobs GFpizza crust on New Years for my DD and she liked it. Hopefully you will too :)

Young kids are exhausting! Sounds like your son is testing the limits ;) little buggers are smart!
Gina is probably right on the money when she points out how the holidays can really throw kids out of whack.....hooefully he will simmer down over the next week or so. :hugs

Well, they only got one squirrel but they had a good time. The pizza was alright but I forgot to spray the pan and it stuck :he

I tried to keep it simple but DS wouldn't touch it. He wanted chicken.

Tomorrow I'm doing chicken with cumin cabbage and rice from the square ft gardening cookbook. It sounds really good so we'll see.

I just used my Barnes & Noble gift card to order Nourishing Traditions and The Gluten Free Gourmet cooks Comfort Foods.

I got several gift cards for xmas and now I have to decide what to buy. I returned 2 sweaters and now have a TJ MAXX credit of $50. I am secretly hoping I can find a digital scale for my future soapmaking stuff. I need some new pots so I hope I can find a stockpot too. I don't need clothes. I need things I can use.

I also got a michael's gift card and I will probably buy batting for some quilt projects.

The biggie is $75 at TSC. Yep, I'm thinking goat supplies. They have a stainless steel pail in the dog bowl section but it would make a good milk pail I bet.

I got a Hoegger's catalog, Gurney's seed catalog, and a Meyer Hatchery catalog in the mail......they must be reading my journal!!!

Isn't it amazing how those catalogs find you?

The first year we were here, I ordered one packet of seeds.

That was enough to get HUNDREDS of catalogs here......

Mine are actually a little slow this year but it's cause we moved....everything has to be forwarded. I really want my Baker Creek Catalog. It's so pretty...

It's supposed to get colder here again....calling for snow by friday. Ugh. I did get a small egg again this morning, hopefully I'll find more by lunchtime. I let the girls out a bit late this morning....about 8:45 so they didn't have a choice but to lay in the nesting box. Maybe that's what it will take to keep them laying where they're supposed to. :hu

I think I got the Baker Creek catalog last week. And a couple others but I haven't had time to look at them.
Now I'm watching that goat cam so I won't get anything done, but it would be a good time to look at catalogs :p

I really wanted fence posts for Christmas. I did not get any
