Muscovies......HA! My husband will not hear of those UGLY ducks coming to live here

I am thinking of rebuilding my indian runner stock and getting all new birds from Holderreads. I'm not happy with mine that I got from McMurrays. My now dead rooster killed one of my 2 girls and now I have 2 drakes and 1 poor hen trying to "entertain" both of them.

I'm thinking of going with all blacks this time, they seem to sell well around here, no one has seen a black duck before and they are so dang goofy that people can't resist and they are good for folks (like me) that don't want to deal with clipping wings. I don't know though cause you can't really eat them, not much meat on them, but they lay a lot of eggs.

I go get the building permit for the garage today!!!

Woohoo....now I can get all the stuff out of the goat barn!

We sold some stuff on CL yesterday so more stuff went away. We are really trying to get rid of what we aren't using.

Hubby wants me to get a Henry Milker for the goats. I think he is just scared to have to learn how to hand milk a goat if I'm out of commission

I'm on the fence about it. :/

mine is the same way, but he includes the runners with the muscovies because "the runners are just wierd, walking around like they are people and all"

Yes, muscovies are incredibly ugly!!!!

Hurray on getting the permit! I admit, we build without them.

We are also in the middle of getting rid of all the "clutter". We just cleaned out the shed this past weekend. It's wonderful!

We got the building permit for the garage! I went and picked it up yesterday. It rained all night and the kids are bugging me to go to Target and Toys R Us and spend the two gift cards they got.

Our gates and the other slide for the barn should come in to TSC today so we'll have to go get those too. I also sent off the mortgage paperwork yesterday so our first "official" payment will come out in May. I dread the closing costs....$1400+ :tongue

We have enough in savings from the sale of the other house to pay it though. Good thing I socked away that money after all. My mother just doesn't understand why I didn't pay off bills with all the money we got from the sale of the house. That's why. We had NO cushion. Now we have money in 2 separate accounts that we can pull from if something comes up. That's what got us in trouble last time with our credit cards....we had no extra cash in the bank and had to use the cards to live off of when we had 2 mortgages. I don't want to go back to that.

My advice to anyone is to have at least 3 months worth of major expenses in the bank where you can't touch it except in an emergency. We also have the type of mortgage that doesn't incorporate our personal property taxes so we have to pay that bill out of pocket every year. So we don't get to spend our tax refund this year, it will go in the bank to pay next year's tax bill. I don't think we'll need it all but I don't know what it will be cause the last bill we got was only for the land without the house on it and that was $400. The house and garage will add significantly to that, and then there is the bill for the vehicles. That was another $700, but we sold the boat so that will cut that a bit.

Congrats on the building permit. I bet Chad is happy. :clap

I know what you mean about the cushion. We received a large refund check from our medical ins. because of some work my dh had done and we paid out of pocket. Anyways when dh job got shaky I let it sit. Thanks goodness because that's what got us through the rest of the year. Now I am trying to build some up again. But now there is the tax bill. We do not use an impound account either. So I find myself waiting on my taxes to pay the second half.

They reduced mine by over 1000 bucks but it's still over 7. :he California bites!!!

have fun with the kids today.

Oh, and I like to refer to my indian runners as "bowling pins on feet" thank you very much! They are great for eggs but the sheer entertainment value of them is priceless! I also like that they don't fly. Heck, my chickens fly higher than they do

My husband thought I was nuts when we first got ours but then he fell in love....he cried when our rooster attacked our little female and we had to put her down. He beat the crap out of the roo too

I'm not a big fan of duck or goose meat. My husband has killed plenty every year and I just don't like the texture. I'm not a liver fan either and goose meat tastes like liver to me. :sick

Oh, I wanted to share a new pic of Frawg....she has discovered the chickens and wants to eat them.....I don't think she would hurt them but she sure does like to play with them through the fence. She's been inside the enclosure with them and they scare her...she tucks tail and runs but she is fierce when she's on the outside!

I'm waiting on photobucket.....
