Yeah, thanks guys, I am really glad she is doing well. When I talked to her yesterday she sounded really happy to be going home and not at all like someone that had just had a total shoulder replacement.

The problem is that her other arm is just as bad and needs to be done as well, she can barely feed herself. Therapy is going to be difficult for her cause she HATES pain and will go easy on the therapy because she "thinks" it will hurt. Took her 3 times as long to recover from her knee replacement cause she was afraid the the exercises would hurt.

She also has to get the other knee done, I joked that she was gonna be the bionic woman by the time we were through.

Today we have the funeral for Chad's buddy Brian. It is looking cloudy and I hope it doesn't rain for it.

Then we have to come home and work the bee hives. I'm really anxious to see what the weaker hive looks like. I know the stronger hive is going to be fine but I'm still worried about the other one. I'm sure it will be fine but it just doesn't seem to have the sheer numbers the other one does. I'm going to take the entrance reducers off today as well, the heat is supposed to be getting into the 90s this week so I want as much ventilation as possible.

I want Chad to take pictures today too as I work the bees. We were so excited to get them in the hives when we got them that we forgot the camera. :/

I'd love to see the Beehive photos, I'm thinking of getting into that but don't know enough about it. Actually Hubby wants to handle the bees (I'm allergic) but I want to eat the HONEY.

Well, the funeral took longer than we expected and man was it ever hard. Brian's son spoke twice at the service and had to be physically carried off the platform the first time (he's 11). Bless his sweet heart...it was hard to watch but I have to give him credit because he got himself together and got back up there so he could say what he wanted to say about his daddy. :hit

I never actually met Brian but I did meet his family and his friends and he will truly be missed. His 14 yr old daughter put together a video/picture slide show and it was so funny/sad/touching all at once. I bawled.

It poured down rain about 45 minutes ago and I'm not liking the sky off in the distance so I think we'll do the bee hives tomorrow afternoon and not risk getting the insides of the hives soaked if another downpour comes up.

Funerals are hard. It is good you went. Some people can't go to those things but it supports the family. :hugs

:hugs I totally understand; children just grow up so quickly. But I bet he's probably more excited about the tooth fairy!

Yeah, oh and we talked to Granny this morning and she went to church yesterday! People couldn't believe that she just had surgery and made it to church. She said after they got back from lunch she was cold so she got into bed and took a 2 hr nap, something she never does. She said she felt pretty good when we called her this morning. :celebrate

Tyler is excited about the tooth fairy....says he wants her to bring him Woody with a pull string from Toy Story AND he wants to keep the tooth. I told him we would write her a note this evening before he went to bed and see if she would let him keep the first one. :D

i worked the bees for the first time yesterday and got stung twice, once on each hive. Not too bad for a girl that doesn't own a veil or a smoker, huh? I'm thinking I may start a separate journal just for my beekeeping so I can keep some records and have some imput on the bees. Hive #1 was very strong and will probably need another hive body in about 2 weeks or maybe even less. They have filled up and started to work on all the 9 frames in the hive body. They had eaten all the sugar water in the baggie feeder too.

Hive #2 doesn't look good at all. We found the queen and there are lots of capped cells and some larvae so we know she's laying but there are about 1/3 the number of bees in there and they have only expanded to one or two other frames in the hive body. The capped cells are dark brown on there and appear to be older. I didn't see any queen cells at all but they had tried to build the comb outward from one of the frames. I don't know if there are older cells that may need to hatch still or if there is a problem. I didn't see any evidence of mites or any disease. They had eaten all the sugar water from their baggie as well.

I have pics but I'll probably post those later if I decide to do a separate journal.

So, I started a separate thread for beekeeping in the Everything Else section. There are a ton of pictures on there so you are warned!

It is like Africa hot out there and if I can ever get my kids to eat lunch we'll go to the pool for a bit and then my BF has invited us over for dinner. Have a good Memorial Day everyone!
