You're a bit too far for me to come for crab apples. :(
Yeah, I guess so. Do you like crab apple preserves? I could mail ya a jar.... :plbb
I have no idea. I've never had them. People don't really grow them around here.
I'll Pm ya.... ;)

No one should go through life without at least once enjoying crab-apple preserves! You MUST eat them with fresh homeade biscuits though. I'm pretty sure it's a law. :old

Well, Gus is home! We picked him up about 4:30 pm.

The trainer called early, I guess around 8 this morning and said the vet had called him and Gus was doing fine and if we were willing to give him some shoots ourselves we could go ahead and pick him up instead of having to board him until Thursday.
I had to do a really quick repair job on the hallway gate, the feed room door and the goat coop door when we got home, because I've been putting off fixing them for way too long. I got that done finally though along with hanging the feed and water buckets and bringing in fresh hay for him. Em went and picked up enough feed at the Co-op to get us through a few days, I unloaded it and got it in the feed room, moved some stuff Terra had packed up out to the shed and unloaded some other stuff out of the truck we've been hauling around since the last auction. I was still pretty sick and very weak, but it was one of those days I had to just cowboy up and make myself work anyway.
I've got the mare in the front yard so hopefully they won't be tempting each other. So far they've just sorta ignored each other after a few calls back and forth. I was going to move her to another farm, but it didn't work out, so I'm just going to have to keep them visually separated and see how it goes. Tomorrow i HAVE to get the rear fenced in, so hopefully I'll sleep tonight. Last night I was up sick, tossing and turning until about 5am.
The vet said to keep him in the stable for two weeks with no exercise, that we have to give him three shots tomorrow and again Thursday then another dose of probiotics on Thursday. After that just keep feeding him good and all the fresh water and hay he wants. He's already started to improve in just the few days we've had him, doesn't look as gutted anyway. We can worm him on Friday too. After two weeks we can start walking him and light exercise then after a month he goes back to the trainers.
Em I think took more pictures, I'll post them later but here's one of her loving on him right after we got him home I took with my phone;

He's such a big baby.
Tomorrow I've got to get busy, so hopefully everything will come together.

Hope you get some restful sleep tonight and get to feeling better soon! :hugs

Glad Gus made it through his surgery okay and man...he is a looker now when he's not in the best of shape! Can't wait to see him after y'alls' TLC! ;)

I suspect we might have several older crab-apple trees in the south-side patch of woods here but they've been neglected forever. Hmmm, adding that to the fall/winter to-do list as far as getting the area cleaned up of deadfall and greenbriers. ;)

I like his size. If I ever get my own place, I'm wanting to get something about that size. Something that's hopefully an easy keeper w/out having to worry about it getting fat, or foundering on grass.

Gus has had his morning shots, got some of the feeding finished, Em and I finished taking the old metal shed apart. Taking a lunch break now, then it's time to start cleaning stuff up, hauling the scrap to the shed, burning brush and get ready to get the fences up in the back. Hoping to get a lot done today.

I hope you get a lot done today too! I caught a wittle mean piggie, and she's got a one way ticket to Gunn's this afternoon to be made into sausage and chops :drool

She only sucked up about 2 hours of my day reinforcing the pen to keep her big butt there, and then more reinforcing so little piglet can't get out. He was SO HAPPY to see his momma :lol: It really was cute ;)
