Maybe .... then again we have had cats raise several litters of adopted kittens in the same year. We also have had a cat raise a wild rabbit!! We currently have a pony raising a sheep.

Animals are individuals. You never know WHAT they will do until you try.

Depends on the hen I suppose. I've had hens that will steal any chick/duckling/kitten/turkey poult/etc in sight and make them their very own. We've even had mother hens fight over who's chicks are who's and who has the most.

If she is still motherly in two months, I would separate her from the fatties in the dark of the night and slip a few new babies under her and see how it goes - could be worth a try!

Definitely! The other year we had two mother cats who shared the same 'nesting' area and they had over twenty kittens between them, from 6 different litters, varying in ages.

I'll have to dig up pictures. One litter was found in a box in town, some others were given to us by a lady who's mother cats were killed.

in an attempt to avoid having that many cats running around, i've got my two tom cats in the crate ready to go get the snip in the morning. it's something that i've been meaning, and needing, to get around to, but it always ends up at the bottom of the list. since momma cat is due to have her second round of kittens this year, i couldn't put it off any longer. she's going in for the same as soon as physically possible.

i wish our farm vet would do it, but he won't... no matter how many times i ask nicely!

You guys should call around to the rescue shelters. PAWS here gives out vouchers to get so much money cut off the cost (I think $15 from males and $30 for females) and I think that the SPCA's will speuter pets for free if you're in a certain financial bracket.

i'm getting the discounted rate at a local place because we rescued the cats. $20/male (plus $7 for the little one to get his rabies shot). it's not too bad.

we get a huge discount from our regular vet. she works with a rescue organization and has her own "trap and spay" program... she's saved us hundreds of $$... we catch as many feral cats as possible and get them fixed.

there is nothing more valuable than a good healthy colony of barn cats!
