Welcome to the forum! :)

Need anyone to homestead that 76 acres for ya? ;) :D
Compared to your beautiful place in WV, you wouldn't like it. Remember this is "the Great Plains" which means no trees. The only natural trees around here are near the rivers. All the other trees are farm shelter belts to stop the wind. The only trees we have are the old shelter belt on my daughters acreage. The rest is bare farm land. There is a spring in a low area that I would like to dig out to form a pond. It is surrounded by rushes and a great hiding place for pheasants and birds. The deer come there to drink. We see their tracks. If I was 30 years younger I would homestead it myself whether DH came along or not! Right now I need the rent income.

Bee, I admire you for all you have done on your own. You have courage and "spunk." Good things necessary for success.

ETA: The pioneers built houses with sod, because there was no wood. Some would travel with their wagon to the nearest river, cut a load of logs and haul them back. That would have been a trip of several days. It would take several trips to get enough logs for a small cabin. There is an original homesteaders cabin a few miles from us. It is only about 10 by 12. The wife stayed on the land claim alone. That was real homesteading and incredibly harsh.
