1) How long have you been interested in self suffiency? My family has always grown their own food from gardens to animals. You can't grow up on a small farm (as in 12 cows) in Wisconsin without believing in some self-sufficiency. The rule of thumb was that you had to have enough food stored for the animals for at least an extra year, in case of a bad crop year, and my parents pretty much had that attitude with the food we had at home.
2) Does your family think you're nuts or are they as crazy as you are? I used to think that my family was nuts but now that I get it I just keep trying to learn as much as I can from them.
3) What is the climate like where you live? Zone 4 to 5, definitely 4 seasons here in NE Wisconsin, but they don't always seem to go in the right order. Two weeks ago, we had 97 degrees, and 3 days later we had 50.
4) Have you ever had a pedicure? Not very often, but I love getting them, especially when they mean a foot rub.
5 Do you prefer cake or pie? mmm, tough one, but my family's favorite is chocolate mayonaisse cake and I love coconut cream pie and strawberry cream cheese pie.
6) What book (if any) made you cry? The Chicken Soup books make me bawl - most recently Chicken Soup for the Catholic Soul
7) What city would you love to see someday? I spent a semester abroad in college, so would love to get back to Edinburgh, Scotland and my husband learned Chinese is college and uses it at work, so we want to go to Beijing and see the Forbidden City.
8) What are you most excited about growing? Right now, strawberries, because I haven't told the kids that they are getting ripe, so I've been able to snack on them all by myself.
9) Do you believe in God? Absolutely!!! I wouldn't have been able to get through the last couple of years without that firm belief.
10) What's the best thing you've learned in your adventure of simpler living? That it's a lot easier to go to the store to buy stuff, but it doesn't taste anywhere as good as when you control the ingredients. That we're healthier because of it. Also, that it's teaching my kids great lessons.
i'm guessing its an old timey one that you'd see at a church carry in supper.... recipe please - post in the kitchen sectionmy family's favorite is chocolate mayonaisse cake
Since I scored big time and met a man with a bunch of land and a desire to start farming...except now he's ready to throw in the towel and I'm just getting started!1) How long have you been interested in self suffiency?
My mother hates the fact that I'm living as she grew up. Says she worked hard so we wouldn't have to "live this way"2) Does your family think you're nuts or are they as crazy as you are?
Awesome. Snow, rain, sun, cool, snow, rain, sun, cool, lather, rinse, repeat3) What is the climate like where you live?
Sure have. Got one a few weeks ago for my 30th birthday! Side note - brown is a great color for the summer so you can "hide" the dirt under your toenails.4) Have you ever had a pedicure?

City....forget that. I'm scared of cities. Give me a mountain, fire and cooler full of beer. Maybe a gun incase the wildlife get frisky and I'm happy.7) What city would you love to see someday?
