Abi: The BPA story was on the TV news but found a story online that's similar: http://news.yahoo.com/toxic-bpa-turning-childrens-soup-cans-group-160507837.html

Trying to convince son that he can eat fresh fruit instead a can of fruit (at lunch) but it must be an auttie thing (or OCD) because not only does it have to be a can of fruit, but he must open it at 12 noon on the dot. He's compulsive that way. If he doesn't get lunch at noon, it throws his whole day off.

Had to go in to town yesterday. Wally-World ... has a motorized sit-cart so I did that for the first time ever. Otherwise, it would have taken me 3 hours with the way I was walking. Wonder if King Soopers has one?

While in town, got of one of son's meds and got me a new RX ... percocet! One pill gave me almost exactly 3 hours of greatly-lessened pain so I could actually feed the livestock and clean the kitchen. Wore off just before the dog trainer got here.

Unfortunately, gotta go back in to town today. Will go after last All My Children .. I grew up watching that soap and I am in absolute disbelief that it's over as of 1 p.m. today. I don't watch it regularly but this week I've been religious. So ... back to town because I need to take some money out of the bank. Hubby's portion of FIL's closed bank accounts was enough to replace our little emergency fund, pay the propane guy, and pay a handyman to help Hubby finish the chicken coop this weekend. Not a lot but enough so we are not negative any more. Whew!

Well. That'll cut down EVEN MORE the cans I buy lol. I've been doing all fruit and veggie storage dried. I don't suppose there's a list of who is clean on BPA? lol

Tried to post a link last week (and again this morning) but computer keeps crashing.

Googled "bpa-free cans of fruit and vegetables" (results at: http://www.google.com/search?q=bpa-...ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7_____en) and came up with a slew of links so here's one: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/03/7-bpa-free-canned-foods.php and http://news.discovery.com/human/bpa-canned-foods-alternatives.html (although some of this link ticked me off).

Basically, it appears that if we want to avoid BPA in fruits and veggies, that I can afford, it'll have to be frozen. Took kid and dog to vet for service-dog's first rabies shot. After we went to Wal-Mart ... kid had a regular cart and I had a motorized, holding the puppy's leash. Leg is in really bad shape today. Puppy peed in an aisle and I couldn't find any employees so tore open a nearby pack of washcloths, cleaned it up, told the first employee I found about 10 aisles over, and during checkout, paid for the washcloths with everything else. Those yucky washcloths are now in my garage, waiting until they are dry so I can put them down in the washer when I do his other towels and bedding.

Got some frozen peaches too. Think I'll put a few in a bowl, sprinkle on a little cinnamon, and nuke them. Hope son will like them.

Plan to also stock up on those dried fruits he likes: mango, blueberries and blackberries.

Found a "handyman" in the neighborhood and he is helping us finish the chicken coop. Got the roof finished ... plastic and tarp on it PLUS he climbed up there to staple-gun it down and I'm amazed that the roof held his weight! Hubby and I must have done a better job building it that I thought. Got the back on yesterday and hope to finish the sides/walls by tomorrow or Wednesday.

Then on to the buck pen so we can move the boy goats there. My two girls are pregnant so I want to make sure they get a bigger portion of grain ... the boys won't let them eat!

Decided we're going to create an ad for handy-person (prefer woman with young child) for free room and part-board. No pay but room plus bathroom, laundry and kitchen priviledges, some free food like eggs and produce and goat milk in exchange for about 3-5 hours a day of work, more in summer, less in winter. Work to include fence and chicken house building, gardening, etc. Hoping we find the perfect person.

Because I need help.

I hate being stood up. Unreliability of people these days. Handyman never came back.

Oh well.

Gonna do up an ad for here on SS in a minute... for live-in help.

Anybody else having troubles getting decent alfalfa hay for a decent price? Last two batches from two dif places were horrible: mostly stems, barely any leafs, and not tightly bound. Was paying $7 a small bale ... same places selling it now for $10 and $11 each. And everyone is saying that by January, there will be almost no hay available anywhere. Drought, etc.

So ... anyone?

Straw was no where to be found a couple of weeks ago. Now it is back, but much more expensive. According to the people at Big R, the hay and straw is being shipped to Texas because of the drought.

NOT Southern, Ca. :)
The man who my sister in law buys from here in so Cal sold his entire crop to Japan. I heard that Texas is sending its cows to butcher early because there is no food for them.

Sad.

It's still on the fields here because it's been too wet to cut and get it baled dry :(

Wow. I really had no idea.

Doesn't seem cost effective to send hay to China, JApan, etc. Oh well, what do I know.

I found some decent alfalfa hay at a feed store but it's for $10.95 (as opposed to the $7 I paid this time last year) ... sending Hubby to get about 15 bales this evening. Also going to buy several bays of alfalfa pellets to store in case we can't get enough bales. Better to feed during a blizzard anyway.

Hubby better get busy building a hayrack so my goats won't waste as much. That'll help. Right now the 4 mini are going through a bale every 3 days.

Just posted my ad for live-in help. If you know someone who's looking for a place to live in exchange for helping out, let me know.

$50 to truck it to a different part of the state vs $30 to stuff it in an empty shipping container already on the way back to China.
