Sending healing thoughts to your mother :hugs

Good luck selling! I am terrible at it and probably could never do a flea market type thing. I only do the Christmas craft fair at our workplace with my soap.

Huge wind storm today. When I fed outdoor critters this morning, except for the feed containers blowing halfway across the yard, all looked ok.

Asked my kid to go out around 3 to let a group of chickens out to free-range. Opened the door, took a look and slammed it shut again. "You don't want me to do that, Mom".

Took a look. Screamed. Two weeks of work, down the tubes. Digging 2-foot deep holes for posts. Hitting my forehead with a pickax. Baling wire grease all over my hands. Holding and stapling and tieing and nailing and screwing ... HUGE wind storm that has been going on since VERY early this morning and still is ... took half the roof off like you peel a grape. Up"rooted" the posts. Tore it all apart.

Chickens terrified. So was I. Called for Hubby to come home (2 texts and 2 voice mailed later, he finally called me back). Called the "handyman" who couldn't come over yet. So the Kid helped me hold down a wall while I thought about what to do. Then we started playing musical chickens to get them out of the coming-apart kennels. Put them everywhere! Even have about 10 girls under a truck topper that's flat on the ground. How the heck we're gonna get the eggs from there, I have no clue. Have more in the goat pen in with the hay.

Handyman came by as we were moving the last 2 chickens into the goat pen. Estimate: $400 in labor, we supply the supplies (from his list) and he and his partner will put it together in 2 days (even tho we're expecting snow on Saturday). Guaranteeing it against wind, rain, snow, and wind. Yes, I said wind twice because we get gusts to 70-80 MPH about 6 months out of the year. Like right now.

Unbefreakinglievable.

So much for getting ahead.

Guys still working on new chicken coops. Knocked on the door a little bit ago. Said can't do the chicken coops AND the goat pen for what they quoted me. Too much work. Taking too long (fighting against wind).

Guess Hubby and I will work on the goat pen next week.

Meanwhile, I went to ortho today. Said basically what I thought. Cyst got so big it messed up my kneecap tracking. Also, my cartledge is very thin. Must not bend knee or else will need surgery which has 3-4 month recovery period.

ARGH!

:hugs :hugs sorry to hear you got the sh*t knocked out of ya'll with that wind. We felt it here, but obviously not as bad as in the mountains. Did ya'll get snow to go with it?

Knee surgery is always a b*t*h. I've had two, one on each knee. I tore the ACL (i think?) on each one, but on separate work related occasions. However, I've always been incredibly thankful I am such a quick healer! Although, sometimes I think I take that for granted, and tend to overwork my injuries trying to heal

CW: We're on the plains, not in the mountains, but yeah, on Saturday we awoke to a couple inches of snow and no electricity. Once it came back on, turned on the furnace for the first time. Ugh. Went out to feed the everybody in the blizzard, fell on my butt, hurt my knee even worse, and developed an ear-ache, throat-ache and fever. Still have it but the world still moves on.

New chicken coop/lean to held up pretty well under this weekend's wind, snow and rain. Couple of little leaks that I can easily fix/block.

Hubby and I talked all weekend and decided to do things a little different for the goats. We're moving them all out into new pens (that we plan to make this week ... expecting 60's and 70's through weekend). They will be closer to the house so not so bad for walking on this knee. Plus our two girls are expecting to deliver in early December. Good to have them close-by.

I used to be a quick healer but within the last 8 years or so, just gone downhill fast. Probably my diet. I told my husband, specifically, on Friday that I wanted to cut out candy. What did he do? Friday night he started munching on halloween candy and when I gave a sniff (of the candy, not pouting), he pushed the bag to me. Not even an hour after I said no more candy!!!

Nap-time!

Mother has settled in ok at the nursing home/rehab center. Talked with her yesterday and during the conversation, told me they forgot to change her bandage for 2 days. UGH! Made a separate call and talked with the administration office. Will take better care of her.

Couldn't believe it but I slept until 10 this morning! That's really really late for me. Gess I needed it. Would have slept later but kid woke me up for his meds.

Denver has their own Occupy Wall Street going on: Occupy Denver. Good teaching tool for my son's civics lessons. Plus we started a subscription to a local paper. Good for coupons, but since we're only getting Sat/Sun issues, on Mondays he cuts out any articles related to government and civics. Tues he organizes in folders I made. Wedn he reads and discusses some and on Thurs reads the rest and discusses. Hope this will help him understand the presidential election. Since we homeschool, we plan to carry this over through the 2012 Presidential election and into the inauguration.

Planning next year's garden. Once we get his little inheritance after FIL's property sells, we'll be putting up fences. Not sure but I think we won't have space for pigs. Not since we decided to have winter accommodations for all animals closer to home. Don't really want pigs next to the house!

Oh, and we've decided to only sell girl baby goaties ... keeping the boys, banding to wether, and raise to slaughter.
Told tastes similar to beef. Yum! Now we don't need a cow.

Any idea what we can raise to simulate bacon?

Huge snow storm (4 inches of heavy wet snow plus another 3-4 expected by nightfall), but we had prepared and were ready. Had finished livestock's new homes: chickens and goats. All covered to keep out moisture, and strong to withstand heavy Spring snows ... too bad they came in October!

Plus, we have plenty of fuel, food, water, feed for critters, and things to do. Project time!

Wondering how other Coloradans are fairing in this weather.

ETA: Just read the Pagan Circle thread and while I started out loving and embracing the openness of participants, have to admit that along came some postings on page 8 and thereafter that really burned my butt.
