New to Sufficient Self but not to being self sufficient

I've seen you on BYC. I just don't comment on to many threads there.

I love gathering wild foods. The salal is ripening here and the blackberries have started. I had picked some thimbleberries and made jelly a couple days ago and it's good. I think I may be to late for the oregon grapes. I need to go look at them and see if they are still in good condition.

I missed your post yesterday, but hi there Bee.

Deb; the persimmon is I guess American. It's just a wild local persimmon that came up volunteer on the old fence row about 20 years ago or so and I left it when I cleared that area since it was producing something we could eat. The persimmons from that tree we just eat as they fall if we can beat the chickens to them. lol I know where several other wild trees are close though, so after the first frost we go pick up any the 'possums missed and make a few jars of jelly from them.



I live on the old family farm. The little house I was raised in is still here on the south end of the property (My uncle lives there now) and in 2000 or 2001 I moved back here from Missouri where I'd lived for years and stayed here with my Grandpa and helped take care of him until he passed away. I then bought out the rest of the family and I live on the north side of the property now. There is also a little cabin in the back that I built for my Ex when we divorced. (She is in bad health too, so I still take care of her and she does what she can to help around the place.) Anyway, we don't have much, but I am very blessed.

Sounds like the American persimmon. There has to be at least 1 other around since you need 2 for fruit. Sounds like a really nice place.
