OH man...glad he's home and able to do the snow removal. I can imagine how hard it would be to walk through all that snow to do chores....

Yay on upcoming new babies! Is it going to warm up any by next week?

Crazy, crazy weather… We only had it for those 2-3 days and I take my hat off to you that has to deal with so much of it and for so long!

Not supposed to warm up much, no. But no storms forecasted at least. DH is on the roof shoveling now. Fatal accident nearby today, tens of thousands without power (not me though, so far so good).

He's done. He has to go shovel someone else's roof, then come home and do the barn. And the sawmill. And the hoop house. Such a pain. I hate snow.

Ok - forgive a southerner in advance for this question. I always heard that snow was a good insulator....so do you shovel it off the roof at this point because there's so much of it that it is a hazard because of the weight?

Yes, primarily. In the case of the house, we also have cruddy insulation so some heat escapes through the roof. That partially melts the snow, then it refreezes as ice, and causes ice dams. Which then cause water to leak in the house.

The house across the street from me had it's roof half-redone some time ago. I.e. half the roof is new. Now, that new half tends to gather up snow until it's about 2-3 inches thick, then it sheds the whole lot in one go onto the foot path in front of the house… (So far, by some miracle or sheer luck, no-one walked past at one of those moments!)

You need one of those roofs ;)
