this is the Accuweather forecast for Bangor Maine. That's a good storm, and, based on past pedictions compared to reality: It could be 6" or 2'. It's not unusual for me to get about 6" more than Bangor gets. And my low temps for my town are almost always 5* less than Accuweather says we have.

Living here in northern New England, you get used to bring forgotten about. You know, there are things north of Boston. But they'll just block us out lol.

Anyway many of the folks north of Boston now are forecasted for 2'+View attachment 9512

Looks like I'm in the 1 to 3" zone. Still waiting for the ground to freeze so my son and I can do a little logging. To much as of current.

Well 8 or 9" out there now. Still have power as of now but if it turns to ice we'll have issues.

DH is out doing chores , kids, dogs and I are inside being warm!

I've been thinking farm plans, winter is good for that! I might put getting a ram on hold this year and get 2 more ewes. I am thinking I don't want to breed anything this year. Lambing with a 2 year old sounds not fun. Wait another year and lambing with 8 and 3 year olds? Now that's better! DH does the pig stuff so he can breed whoever he wants but I'd love to get down to one sow. We'll see. Bees and garden are the focus this year. And fencing .

Plans sound sound, lol! Makes sense to not add lambing stress to the equation right now. Just have to hold off on lamb cuteness for a while longer. I'm anxious for ya'll to get bees. I can live vicariously through ya'll. DH would like bees but I'm not taking on any more projects. I've suggested Mason bees to him and that might be a possibility.

Fencing - ugh….but definitely a good step. It's tons of work, but at least it lasts a long time.

Oh we are going to do a batch of meat birds this year. We weren't going to but decided we'll just do a small batch. We don't need anything to do them though, just lug out all the stuff and buy some birds.

What's the best/cheapest perimeter fencing? Woven wire? Don't know if that's doable this year or not but I want to try for it.

The 2 x 4 no climb horse fence is most favored - but I didn't use it. It's crazy expensive and just wasn't in my budget. I used woven wire from TSC. I've only had one problem with it in over 30 years. I had a doe with a big scur stick her head through it and get hung up. I didn't miss her for over 24 hours in the heat of our summers and I nearly lost her - but she pulled through. If I could afford it I'd use stock panels everywhere!

Meat birds... ugh. My last attempt was a total fail, lol. Lesson - don't buy 'em from TSC. Mine were very poor quality. I butchered most but two of the gals actually made it into the laying group. They're no bigger than my other layers and instead of being pure white Cornish X they have some buff something in their background. They're nice calm layers though - I kinda like 'em.

That's crazy. We get ours from the local feed store. They're the healthiest birds and they absorb any losses so it works great. I've been very happy since we started buying them there. No clue what hatchery they order from but they've been good.

I don't have a lot of goats left and the ones I do aren't fence testers. My sheep aren't hard on fences, and the pigs will only see the fence if they get zapped first, lol! I can't afford the no climb fencing, so woven it'll probably be. We want to gate our driveway too. It'll keep the neighbor dogs away too, will be much better for them if they stay over there!
