She was one of them, yes. We were considering if we should kick her off the nest but apparently this happened... Sigh. The other one sitting went after DH fairly aggressively when he took her mama out.

Can you put her eggs in the incubator? Or under the other hen (at risk of losing a finger or two)? That really stinks.

They were kind of co-sitting so I'm hoping she'll take them in. Or maybe DH will stick his hand in there, I'm not going to!

DH did shuffle the eggs under her as much as he could. He definitely has to wear heavy gloves to get in there- she is a MEAN broody!

Yesterday we also expanded the goat fence and fixed the spots they were escaping. They're thrilled!

Planted pole and bush beans, and marigolds. Then mulched, and put up a temporary fence to keep the chickens out until they're re-fenced in.

Supposed to rain on and off all day today. Going to run to tractor supply this morning and then have a bbq at my parents' house.

We are hoping to butcher the pigs in the next week or two. The guy we were getting grain from still hasn't been able to clean his silo so his grain is moldy now... Nice. So we were spending $.14/lb, and at the feed store pig grain is $.30/lb. So we would love to not pay that much for very long! I hope I have room for them in the freezer... Might need to eat a bunch to make room!

Oh, our baby turkeys are living with our chicks (except the 2 white orpingtons, who are living separately at the moment). They're so cute and awkward! They get along great! Except those darn Easter eggers, those we are planning on selling as pullets. I didn't realize before I got them how flighty they are. So not our style. They'll sell easily, $15 a bird, someone will want those eggs!

Well, my mom told me tonight (I had assumed but didn't know for sure) that my grandfather will not be coming up this summer. Which means he will not be coming up, ever. Which, frankly, sucks. I can't afford to fly to Florida, and he's way too tired to handle a 4 year old (especially my wild child) for more than an hour or so, so I would also have to get a hotel... Yeah not gonna happen.

I am not looking forward to telling my daughter he's not coming this summer. She skyped with him yesterday at my mom's and she told me he's doing better and will probably be coming home... Poor kid... Wishful thinking. Me too, kiddo... Me too.

Tried to re-integrate the Orpingtons with the others this morning... Too soon.

Have you tried doing it the other way around? Put one chick at a time in with the Orpingtons. For whatever reason, I've had luck doing that with pretty much any kind of critter. Instead of putting the 'underdog' with the more dominant ones - I'll put the underdogs in an area - let them get accustomed to it - and then one by one put the other critters in with them.
