I heard on the radio today, that (and forgive me if I get this wrong) 49 (?) of the 50 (is that right?) states have snow. (Just to show my ignorance in american geography)

Let me put it this way--only one state does not have snow on the ground right now. And it is Forida. Even Hawaii has snow. How weird is that?

School was cancelled here today also but because of freezing rain that was falling on top of the snow. A school bus went into the ditch first thing this morning and that prompted school closure.

School for my youngins has been canceled for the last two days,...lake effect snow all the way down here in the mountains,..so far tomorrow they are on a two hour delay,...I hope they get to stay home. I am glad that the kids don't have to get out in this mess.Riding a bus on these mountain roads on a clear day is bad enough. Our school system allots 7 snow days,...last year we had like 16 snow days,..didn't effect their time off for spring break or getting out date. The teachers wasn't contracted to work on those days, so no vacation days taken away. This year we have allready had 6 snow days,..... WV,...they just don't care about the kids,..just teacher contracts apparently,..

Yup, heard that too. All states except Florida have snow on the ground somewhere right now, and that includes Hawaii!
We did have school after a 90 minute delay, after record breaking snowfall of over 2 feet in less than 24 hours, with 5 foot snowbanks, limited visibility around corners, snow still on most side roads. I watched a pickup truck pull out of a side road in front of me like it was a normal ol' Thursday. After he finished his 360 degree spin he still didn't slow down and slid into a snow bank when he made a right turn.

Yes, I saw that, too. They showed a satellite image where practically the whole country was white. :/

I can only hope the snow in Hawaii is up in the mountains! :p

Please for give me ahead of time. :hide Ca. does have snow but we, my area, are supposed to reach almost 80 today. The weather is just not right I'm telling ya.

But if anyone wants to come for a visit I'm good with that.

Enh, there's USUALLY snow in Hawaii in winter, isn't there? On Mauna Loa at least? (Which, along with Haleakala, are pretty good'n TALL mts). I mean, there are commercial skiing concessions in Hawaii, that should give some idea of how non-unusual snow is there :p

When I lived in NC (actually this was true in DE too) I first thought it was really dumb and weenie for them to cancel school and pretty much shut down the whole state every time any snowflake fell out of the sky. But then after I'd been there a couple years I realized that given the amount/type of plowing equipment they have and the relative lack of experience the plow *operators* have, 5" in central NC is pretty comparable to like 2' up north :p

I still remember the first good snow we had when I moved down there, my office looked out on the road which ran down somewhat of a hill. I think it was maybe 6" of snow? First you saw cars skidding and spinning (literally) down the hill. Then you saw campus-police cruisers skidding and spinning down the hill. Finally I saw a SNOWPLOW skidding and spinning down the hill and I realized I was in the South for sure LOL (And I only grew up in Philly, which is not exactly blizzard country!)

We only have about 3-4" of (wind-packed) snow on the ground here right now. Neener neener! :)

I didn't realize you lived for a time in NC, Pat, so you understand our pain here. I lived prior to this in VT; we had back-to-back snow storms of 2 feet each, right before we moved down here. Hell, I took my state driving test (in MI) when I was 16 in a blinding blizzard. You just grow up driving in snow, so it's no biggie. NOW...however, OMG there's 6" of snow!!! AAAAAGH!!!! :hide

It's a skill you lose QUICKLY!

yea that is right 2bz

I did lose my snow coping ability very quickly when I moved here lol

My first Christmas 16 years ago when I moved here was 64 deg. I couldn't believe what a beautiful day it was outside, and nope, I didn't miss a white Christmas at all haha and I kinda didn't ever want to see a white Christmas ever again..wouldn't bother me one bit
