Noobie glad you are safe...:hugs

Congrats on your smooth transition with the goat. You make it sound so easy! Seriously I have been reading all these goat posts and had always thought, I could never manage milking a goat. You really make it sound like it is not that big of a deal, which is great....something else to add to my *someday* list :ya

Edited to add, the news just showed a clip of the damage. Holy Moly! I am really glad it didn't come thru your area!

We, thankfully, did not get any damage. It appears the storm that hit Yazoo City & Durant went right between 2Dream and myself, a little north of the halfway point. I'm very sad about the loss of life & injuries sustained from this storm cells. There were several storms across the entire state, the Yazoo City one was the worst.

Thank you all for your prayers.

A video of the storm & damage can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoRabHzYQsk

I'll be back & respond to the other comments, I just wanted to hop on & say thanks.

Okay, I'm back. :D
To everyone, I think storms are exciting, but yes, tornados are frightening and not in a good way. Terrifying more like :th
Thank you all again, and I'm sure the folks in the damaged areas would thank you too.

OFG, yep this is it. And this is our second big storm of the year. Ick!!!
Free, I think you have a very cute, sweet reason to be a bit self-centered. New moms have that right ;)

Rebecca, WOW!! That happened to a friend of mine, former co-worker. Her cousin came by to take her hubby for a bite to eat just down the road and a tornado touched down right by her house. When they got back, maybe 10 minutes later, it was all gone, house, cars, light poles, trees. They found wreckage, photos & clothing 20 miles away. She got her wedding pictures back about a month later. Someone found them in their yard, did enough research & snooping to find out who they were & mailed them back. They were a little water damaged, but not bad at all. She cried over that for a few weeks. Thank God for insurance.

2Dream, I cannot imagine that you did get any weather from that cell. I'm very glad you did though!! It got hairy here for a while, but just heavy, heavy rain. DH & I took turns sitting up Saturday night to watch & listen. We had the kids a backpack packed with clothes, slip-on shoes by the door & we slept fully dressed. Yeah, we were a little freaked out...

Dace, I will admit it has been easier than I expected, but goats really are stubborn. Those first few days were so-so. And just last night, DH went to help a friend of ours out so I was solo again.

Guess what happens when you get cocky with goats & think its gonna be smooth sailing?

They escape their fence, assault you at the door, knock the feed bucket out of your hand, make you spill the udder wash, drop the paper towels in a puddle & step on the bridge of your foot as you teeter on the edge of balance on the back steps. !!!!!GAH!!!! :rant :he
I have named my herd as a collective. Teddy G (TDG, Those D@^M Goats!!!)

On the bright side, I have 2-1/2 gallons of fresh, frothy, creamy milk in my fridge and I don't have to mow the back acre. I didn't get to make the feta this weekend like I planned, we were too busy making sure the rabbits & goats wouldn't drown & the plants wouldn't wash away.

ETA: Oh yeah, chickens!
Here's my three prettiest ones (So far anyways :) )

What pretty chickens.

So glad you are ok. Strange how I don't mind earthquakes, but tornadoes and hurricane scare the bejeezes out of me
Just one more reason I live in California ;)

Thanks, FD! I think I would pass out if the ground started rolling under my feet :th I don't like hurricanes either, Katrina put our lights out for a couple of weeks and it got really, really nasty. She was spinning off tornadoes left & right. Something just not right about that, one natural disaster feeding off another one :/

Something about the easy potential for total devastation that gives me the heebie jeebies :p

We get teeny tiny tremors from the New Madrid every once in a blue moon, but normally they don't even register in this area. Or it feels like a logging truck just went down the highway. That, I can handle.

If you would like to help any of the people affected by the storms in Mississippi, you can go here to see what is needed & how to help.

Good news is there was no assaulting this morning :p
Although Dixie expressed her displeasure that I was a whole 15 minutes late. Almost 4 lbs this morning, exactly 4 lbs at last night's milking. Her teats & udder were looking a little dry, so I got some of my cocoa butter & massaged her after I dipped her last night.

I've learned not to let her out of the headstock until she is done eating, if not, she won't stay on the stand & keep eating. So this morning, what OFG predicted happened. I was standing there waiting "Are you done yet?!?" I had filtered the milk & stuck it in the freezer to cool quickly before she decided she was done.

Here I am milking Dixie.

You were sweet to share your cocoa butter. Will she give chocolate milk now? You got used to milking pretty quick. :) Nice pic.

What a good girl your doe is! A gallon a day! Woohoo! Whatcha gonna make??

I purposely do not milk at the same time every day, nor do I feed at the same time. Animals can tell time, and my schedule does not allow me to be "by the clock." So there are no huge fits if I am a couple hours later than usual.

I am going to have to remember that with my little goats. Although right now, I do try to be on time with their feeding. But I don't always manage. Pour little things got their breakfast 20 minutes late this morning. I overslept :p
