That pup is adorable, hope you got the worms taken care of...poor thing!

I have a playhouse that my chickens live in. I only have three and they are only in it at night or in the rare event we have a down pour....I screened the windows and cover them with plastic in the winter. Found it used on craigslist. Just thought that might be an idea for you as a stealth coop....although you couldn't house 16 birds in it.

The thing with chickens is if the numbers are to high you can eat them,or sell them. I'm debating weather or not to sell the 8 extra chickens, I only want 8 though 4-6 even would do us as we have 7 people in the family, I was also planning on sharing the eggs with people who needed them.

Thanks for sharing your projects! Bet your boy is loving the chicks. Hope you get things worked out with the city- I know I'd be stressed. Kind of surprised about the rabbit though- seems I see them in the city.

Have you thought about putting your rabbits over red wiggler composting worms? Something else to make compost and to sell.

Right now we are "boarding" our Rhode Island Red rooster for 1-2 weeks, collecting eggs to incubate. He stays at a friends that is a bit out of town, but DH wanted to bring him here to watch over the little harem, I guess. He has 5 ladies with him. He doesn't crow too much, at least compared to other roosters we've raised (we tell them "if you crow, you go!). Even still, I worry about the village getting their dander up. It has been yucky rainy all week until today, then more rain and possibly SNOW! so at least the neighbors will be mostly in for awhile.

Good luck!

The chicks are now just over a week old. They have grown so much:) This weekend is going to be a good weekend to finish my outdoor projects before spring.

Isn't it fun to watch them grow and see daily changes? I LOVED that part of raising chicks.

We now are a urban farm no doubt about it:) We have 5 large raised bed, plants started, strawbarries and grape vines, pear tree ,meat rabbits, chickens...... I really enjoy getting the house into the urban farm idea. We have chose to make our yard super green, we even use rabbit poop for fertilizer, for the first time ever our front garden is green and super healthy:) We are planting lots of edible plants around the house. I was thinking of starting a bee hive but the nieghbors might not like that too much:)

Good to hear your mini-farm is coming together.
I was standing outside this morning, about to go do some goat squeezing & I had a similar revelation. Bees were buzzing, rabbits were hopping & thumping, the chickens were clucking, the goats were maaa-ing, my jasmine is coming into bloom & I'm about to harvest some onions for breakfast omlets. Life is good.
But then I had to come to work :p BLAH!
