About how big is your mini-mancha? Poundage-wise? And height? I cannot find that kind of info anywhere and for some reason, it's very important that I know right now :p Yeah, I'm gettin serious 'bout this goat idea. Lord help me. One minute I feel confident and that it would be the best decision in the world, and the next minute I panic and know that I'm nuts.
I can get a trio but I really don't want the buck and I'm not sure if this breeder offers stud service, which would be a problem. I guess that's my #2 problem. #1 being - get hubby to allow it. HE has seen this coming for years though, so it's not lie a huge surprise.
I'll stop rambling in your journal now. Thanks for any help/enabling you can provide

My dh grumbled at the goat idea but he LOVES having them now. All the goodies! He even milks for me without grumbling anymore. Of course, I always oooh and aaahhhh over how much more milk they give for him ;) so he feels superior for a moment or two.

oh golly here i am screwin around..

Nibbles is under 50 lbs and is about the size of a medium dog (height)

do NOT get the buck! i'll send you a breeder's info who is nearby. she charges $50 for dates and then a small fee if your gal stays over (Nibbles stayed 2 weeks cuz she was playing hard to get).

more later!

Excellent about the breeder. Good to have friends in the know! And Nibbles is smaller than our dog, so that's a huge plus! And the poop is beneficial too, unlike the dog. Ewww.
I love how you inflate your hubby's ego Free :gig Too cute!
Urgent update! :th
DH just agreed to go check them out at the farm. It's just a matter of time now...
I'm emailing the breeder with a million questions because DH is an analytical guy - literally, he's a numbers analyst :p - and he needs to have every bit of info he get, put into a report, calculate every statistical situation possible, and then think on it for a looong time before he makes a decision. Drives me nuts sometimes. But it pays well. Never ask my DH "what are the chances of that?" He will figure it out and tell you.

great news! ok i ducked back in.. but i have to go back outside...

so dont hesitate to send me/us the same questions! it might help someone else know what to ask. remember the only qustions i asked when i got nibbles was: will it eat poison ivy? and then i threw her in the back of the truck.

:)

more later

and yes my hubby loves Nibbles now also. remember the only reason i didnt grill her (you read that right) was b/c he threw himself over her and pleaded for her life. and then hid my computer so i couldnt post her on CL.

and now i'm back to loving her too. we love her cuz we love her. but it helps she does eat poison ivy and is a good milker

Go outside? Isn't it raining at your place? It is here...

Well, (now don't take this the wrong way) if that's all the prep you did before you got goats, and your goats are still alive, then I should be OK. I have been studying for years. Wannabe farm nerd, that's me :bun

Really most of questions I have are "where in this neck of the woods can I get insert-name-of-product?" Like good hay, first aid kit stuff to have on hand, all the ridiculous injectible stuff they have to have, vitamins etc. I probably just need to take a look at the hoofed animals section at the feed store, huh?
I have no fear of treating injuries or birthin' babies - it's the digestive issues that could be any one of a hundred things that freaks me out. I need a symptoms chart...

And I need something quick and easy to put up for containment and shelter. I'm thinking a 8X10 chain link dog kennel with a dog house. Yep, I'm gettin me some miliking dogs:p The backyard is officially becoming a barnyard and I'm OK with that. All the pretty stuff is in the front yard anyway. The porch had it's screens ripped out long ago by dogs and children, and the ducks hang out there sometimes. Messy, yes.
Now, that setup will go inside of our privacy fenced area which is big. I can let them out to have the run of the yard most of the time, and take them out to the pasture in back on occasion. The garden beds were coming out anyway, to be moved outside of the fenced yard. I wish our property wasn't divided in half by the driveway and workshop, but it is what it is.

Here's a photo of our yard: note the fencing is now 6 ft wood privacy all around. The chicken coop is on the far left near the house and their yard extends all the way back.

Hey! I'm way behind on reading your journal and missed the party. :p

QA said you had a great picture of a 10 x 12 turkey hoop house, and I can't find it. Can you point me to it, pretty please? :D

Don't have any of those. I have daisies, salvia, daylilies, tickseed/coreopsis, spiderwort, russian sage, tall phlox. All of which can be easily moved.

yucca, morning glory and ewe plant( don't know if I spelled that right.)
Are you sure about the yucca? We have it in the Mexican section of our supermarket or does yucca in spanish different than English? Don't forget the Castor plants if you have any.
