Our heat is so oppressive I would enjoy a thunderstorm, big or little. When we walk out of the house, the heat slaps us in the face - I feel so sorry for my chickens, I'm ashamed to go check on them in case they can tell I'm in a cool house. I took ice water in a pan for them yesterday to stand around in.
That biggun missed us her ein SE indiana....but last night we had a great lightening show. Thats all it was. Not a drop of rain.:/ My water bill will be enormous next month. Then, as I sit here planning to go get a load of feed.....I looked out the window, and its raining! But of course! NOW I cant go get feed in the rain. I really need to find a cap for my little S 10.
Glad you all are safe there in OH. I saw the radar, that was a doozy of a storm!
We (my area) did not get rocked that bad. Sometimes - especially when it's really hot like this - we get the benefit of what they call the "bubble effect" from living west of a metro area. The weather approaches and then the system splits and goes north and south of us.
So we had a nice lightning show and a little rain last night, but nothing severe. I was actually a little disappointed. I love a good summer thunderstorm.
- here in OH, an egg farm = a massive commercial operation that produces eggs. We have quite a few of them, and we have a few hatcheries. The building that collapsed was undergoing renovations, but those winds yesterday did alot of damage in places.
hey everyone!!!! yep we made it... wow what a rain!
the storm last nite was mostly rain and not as much lightening....we just had another little bit pass us by (poor vita was on the milk stand when the thunder started and i hot stepped her right along!). looks like the folks in KY and WV and going to get it today.
we have water in our basement (just a bit) and no damage that i can tell. the guineas and two of our drakes didnt make it in last nite...that will teach them! wow! they were all big eyed this morning. our pond is really full now - it was getting low so i'm happy about that.
so everyone is soggy but none the worse for wear. when the rain started again Mrs. Dowlrimple (hen momma) and her "Bugs" (as we are calling her 9 chicks) were still outside. so i had to shew them in... hee hee hee it was like herding bugs! they are so cute!
so whew!
hopefully now we'll get a break from the humidity - next couple days are supposed to be good. i'm headed back out to let the geese out so they can swim around in the yard. wow! either this is gonna be great for the maters or they are all going to split wide open. i need to check my sunflowers also - they might have toppled over.
Javamama - where are you in Ohio? I'm in Sullivan. I get the same thing here. The worst of the storms either pass north or south of us. We got some good rain last night but the worst of it passed south of us.
OFG - I hope you didn't get washed away or blown away. Some of those storms were really bad.
