Hey, I get it! A few years ago, hubby asked me what I wanted for Christmas...I said...tools. My VERY OWN tools and toolbox. I was half expecting a cheap little plastic box with an assortment of wally world tools..nope! He bought me the black and gold anniversary toolbox from Craftsman...and FILLED it with every craftsman tool I would ever need! Oh, I got "the look" from both of my sisters....when they were showing off thier new little diamond necklases...or bangle watches...I pulled out my toolbox. :D I was as happy as a hen in a compost pile. They just dont get it. Last year my sister jokeingly asked me...." so, what did you get this year, more tools"? ( her with a crooked grin) to which I replied...heck no! Not THIS year, I got a toolbelt!!
So far this summer hubby has put in 2 paddocks, and built a goat cabin....I better not push it asking for too much...I was thinking...a 16 gauge shotgun? I already have the 357, and a little 22 handgun...yup, I want the shotgun!!:D

I really like it here in sonoma county, california, but it seems a LOT of you live in ohio. But you guys get snow sad I don't mind visiting snow, but I really don't like shoveling it on a regular basis.
oh i LOVE sonoma!!! actually one of my goals in life is to become the Postmaster General at one of those little Northern Cal towns that has a sign that reads "Population 18"....

but you cali folks have too much crazy govt stuff going on...... so i'm voting for oregon.

i think my hubby is filling out every job application in the state of OR right now. he just got back from dropping everything her was doing today and rushing one of our tools over to his mother. who INFORMED him that we cant go and pick up apples anymore at the back property (from the trees that Grandpa planted - we've been doing this every year mostly with her saying "oh go and get them"). apparently they dont want them going to the hogs. but can we come over and do more chainsawing for them?

wow.

and for the record we used those apples for us - they are a special kind (Grimes Golden) and make the best pies/sauce etc.

i think she forgets we are her kids and not just some people off the street. and i think she forgets that he's off work - so for us to waste $15 in gas (and a work day) to take her a tool that she'd otherwise have to RENT...and then be told thanks for the tools but no you cant have any of MY food anymore. golly.

good thing the neighbors love us!

I guess you get them to give you lumber by just being consistently odd for many years! That and most of my family has started to get it. My D1 has gotten a load of gravel for Christmas for the last two years, my sister is thrilled with a TSC gift.

I even got a table saw for Valentine's Day from my hubby a few years back! Most of his gifts are pretty SS as well.

They can keep their sparkles. ;)

OFG that sounds so like SO' father

Hey, I'd settle for oregon. I don't like many of the ca laws either - stupid ones. Too many, if you ask me. And lets not talk about the taxes :duc
Heck, if you guys move to oregon, I might just have to go up there and do some visiting. It's been years since I've been in that state. DD lived there for a year, she had been accepted at a University, then she changed her mind about living there. It was too dull for her in Corvalis ;)

I wish I'd live in one of those little towns in sonoma county too
Unfortunately we live in Santa Rosa :sick and are supposed to be "citified" according to the laws and SO's family :idunno

Sorry, not me. I refuse to be stuck in a cookie cutter mold.

I often dream of picking up our little patch of land and plopping it into a more countified setting with a bit more land and a creek and some woods, hopefully with a good many of ss'ers nearby

hahaha, this reminds me of christmas a few years back. i was at home depot with my dad and brother buying my mum a mitre saw for christmas because she is a wonderwoman with tools and the lady at the cash goes "aww, are you buying this for your dad?" and my dad goes "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YEAH RIGHT, its for my wife"

I'm not going to Oregon. Sorry. To far north. My dh lived there for a year once. He grew a beard and all. :p He really liked it there. I'm heading east. When I buy land I want it big and flat. or rolling. I don't think you can find that in Oregon unless you go east. Then isn't it high desert?

You know sometimes with the in laws. I think they treat perfect strangers better than they treat the family. :idunno

gina you are a hoot! my hubby already has a beard - do you think they will let him in? ha ha ha ha ha

some of OR is desert, some is mountains, some is coastal. we figure we have tons of options.

as for flat and rolling - yeppers... its as flat as flat can be. we are in the more rolling part but wowza. from the old farm you can basically see kansas.

i'll tell you what - one thing we are definitely looking for is NOT living on a main road. so aside from water on the property, a workable house, and outbuildings.... NOT on a main road is definitely going to be on our must have list.

the best thing about the road closure we have going on is that we arent getting any road noise. WHAT a difference!!!! we set back from the road but we normally hear the trucks. and now... wow. next time we will know for sure.

we're still trying to make a joke about the MIL. sigh. most of the time i can be a good sport but the last couple weeks has kinda worn me down. i'm just kinda tired of the back handed - or just slapped right in my face - nasty comments.

plus i feel like i got an extra helping of "thats not fair".... if my mom were still alive not only would she be cheering us on... but she'd have gotten up and picked those apples for us, made a real dinner, and then gotten up and met us at church (instead of telling us what idiots we are for going)! and then she'd be out here helping me with chores and even chasing those pigs.

my mom would not be standing around telling us everything we are doing wrong and what are we doing to do for her today? but instead.. sheesh.. i'm stuck with that piece of work. that woman isnt getting any pie that is for sure.

one of the reasons that OR is so appealing is that is so far away.

sorry i'm so crabby about the whole thing. i'll buck up in a bit. just need to get all my complainin' out.

but there is work to do so i'm getting to it. where's my shovel? i got taters to did today....
