ha! you said it, java.

i once stood outside and waited for the bus when it was -30*, i'm not kidding. they didnt even CONSIDER calling school off! man!

but i'm guessing the neighbor kids are relieved.

my 4H kid came over and gave the ladies their BoSe shots - she said they looked good and not to worry.

yay!

:)

My son was worried about getting stuck at school because maybe the buses wouldn't run or something like that. I said "we live 1/2 mile down the road, don't you think we could come and get you?"

Yay for healthy goats! :ya

I'm doing an herbal copper/selenium, but I have the regular stuff just in case. So far so good.

I've been reading too many goat birth horror stories so I bought a cheap barn cam to hook up. I'm worried about cold temps more than anything and want to keep an eye on them at night. I don't want to have to sleep in the barn in the middle of February :D

Pet hair - it's everywhere here. To sell processed foods of any kind at our farmer's market you have to have a domestic kitchen certificate. One of the rules is not to have pets in the house and/or be able to close off your kitchen when working there. Not happening at my house. Dog, cat, rabbit......we're swimming through pet hair all the time. I've probably eaten more than I've swept up and haven't coughed up a hairball yet. :gig

so tamales.. they are those doohickies wrapped in some kinda corn husk thing??? what do you do with the wrapper? eat it? dont eat it? when i lived in civilization i'd see them - for at least $4 ha - and didnt understand them at all... yikes!
Finally! A topic upon which I am well informed, being from little Mexico, Los Angeles. Tamales should NEVER cost four dollars and you throw away the corn husk, it is the cooking wrapper.

They are basically a mixture of corn flour (masa) and lard (manteca) and made into kind of a paste. You lay some in a corn husk, stuff it with whatever meat you like and spices, whatever, and then fold it into a little bundle and steam them. Sounds gross but don't knock it till you tried it, and you DON'T want those nasty store bought ones or canned ones. Ew......

Mexican ladies in L.A. make real tamales to sell, usually a dollar each, to their friends as a way to make money. They fill them with leftovers! Tamales are dirt cheap to make and not difficult, just time consuming. It is a hispanic tradition to make tamales on Christmas Eve.

We like them all year! We are not hispanic but we have known so many good friends from Mexico, we almost feel like we are.

There is a great tamale recipe over at BYC if you need one....they are a very good cheap food.

oh my little friend.. come here and let your auntie OFG reveal all to you.....

http://www.lecreuset.com/nl-be/Stores/

and you so close but yet so far to north carolina.......

i got a spectacular blue oval pot at one outlet store for about half the price. still not a total bargain.. but makes me happy none the less. i lay awake and dream about their extra huge oval french oven:

i had looked at that store list, but i didn't even realize they were outlets... just figured i'd be paying full price. the one in GA is pretty convenient for whenever i go to Atlanta (which i do about every other month)... i'm in so much trouble and i've never been more excited!

1/2 price dutch ovens might make me wet myself...

(runs off to see if there are any savings bonds that haven't been cashed in yet, jewelry that doesn't get worn, electronics that aren't important, screaming at the dog to hurry up and clean the kitchen cabinets out)
