Some kind of 'Fat Tuesday" tradition in prep for Lent I think...the grocery stores just get a jump on it like they do everything else.

Well, for what it's worth - I don't think they are anything special. What I got are essentially high priced jelly doughnuts. And they didn't label the flavor right, so I had to take 2 trips to the store to get what I wanted :/
