you can imagine we keep that child away from that demon gander, OD.....

she still talks about how the rooster tried to kill her. she tried to show me 'the scar' the other day... i'm figuring that will end up being the subject of at least 3 years of therapy. for heavens sakes!

Now THAT is quality entertainment!  :gig OFG, you are a gal after my own heart (just the right amount of ironic humor ) ....I kind of like life's little ironies as well. :D

You seriously should consider writing these stories down and submitting them to the world.....everyone could use a good laugh. The imagery was hilarious!!!!

I have a beatin' stick also....but it's called The Rooster Stick~which, basically, means any stick I can lay my hands on at the time. I keep two or three in the corner of the coop for just such emergencies as this.

I have a couple of roosters who are reaching maturity and beginning to challenge me but only when I turn my back, the little cowards :barnie ! I learned to carry an attitude adjustment stick after my BIG ROO attacked me one day and all I had to defend myself with was a 5 gallon bucket. Defending myself wasn't working - I had to actually take an offensive stance and go after him to get him to back down. To this day nobody can believe I let him live. I must admit, a full grown, full sized rooster can seem quite formidable and it's best they learn their lessons early.

heh heh heh... just send them kids (and bad roosters) to me... its like i tell 'em all:

Rule #1: no sassy mouths
Rule #2: everybody works
Rule #3: everybody plucks

if The Rules are not abided by.. well lets just say i hand out a lot of beatin's...

seriously! can you believe people leave THEIR CHILDREN with me!!??!? golly.

but really - my favorite beatin stick is a hickory shepherds hook. its perfect - nice and stout, long enough to trip run away chickens, catches geese and ducks even in mid flight, tall enough to make up for how short i am (giving the illusion i'm bigger)...and makes a dandy fightin staff if i do say so myself.

:)

Funny story!

Weird how some people have a built in animal repellant, I have a friend who visits every few months and every bird on the property wants to kill him, even the cats who are complete 'attention ho's' avoid him like the plague.

But no creature is as fearsome as the overprotective mommy!
