Put a bell collar on the cat to help warn the adult birds and see if there is a way to protect the nest from him reaching it?

I have these wire portable panels that I used for stuff like that. I would fence it and give em a chance and just work around them.
I am a bit of a marshmallow when it comes to wild critters. Here is the evidence. 4 years ago I was cleaning the porch off and took a round metal candle holder and hung it from the porch beam. A few days later when I finally got around to putting everything back together, I noticed a bird had started to build a nest in it.
Not only has that candle holder never held a candle in the last 4 years, it is still on the beam, and I installed a perch for them
It has been continually occupied by Rocky Mountain Finches that whole time. Sometimes they even raise two clutches a year.

I'm a bird lover, so I vote for giving the eggs a chance. Depending on what kind of bird it's from, they may even be really good for your garden. Many birds eat weed seeds or bugs that are causing damage to your crops.

putting wire around it is a good solution - thanks!
however with us chain sawin' as much as we are... i'm pretty sure we already cut down a spotted owl's nest. or maybe it was a red headed, double breasted mattress thrasher.. i dunno. i'm not much of a birder.
i hope the momma came back tho - we are about to be pounded by a storm. i didnt have time to put anything around the nest but i hope i left enough of the weed to cover it.

i had to run everyone in - and everything blew off our front porch. drat! of course this was the one day we let the meats be outside. they didnt have a way to waddle in - so i had to snatch up two at a time and carry them in - football style. there was a lot of screaming.

Out to pasture
You guys have had heat!? I lit a fire in the stove these past 2 days. It has been cold and rainy. Yuk! We are NOT supposed to have rain and cold in June!
At least today we have sun. So I am going to try to get caught up on some laundry.
I got a broken thumb and it is really difficult to work with a bandaged thumb!
My meaties are still running around and being cute. I got 3 different kinds. It is iteresting to see the difference. Each group is being raised by a different hen. I have to keep them all seperate, since the mommas are fiercely guarding their brood.
