I would write a check list of everything I did in a day. Then next time you are with MIL, pull it out and say "I sure hope I got everything done today. Tomorrow's list is even more interesting! Milked goats, check, canned sauce, check, cut the cheese....."

Next, stick the list in front of MIL's face and say "Is everything checked off? I think I have something in my eye and can't see the check marks."

Then hand off the list to her and look for tissue to wipe your eyes.

Have you never had your MIL over? I would invite her over for a lunch, but then "forget" and be in the middle of a massive canning and cheese making venture when she showed up.

Well if it makes me fit in better, I HAVE one of those canning books. Fresh crisp and barely opened.
I have 'Canning and Preserving for Dummies'.

The first time I used it, I accidentally caught the cover on fire, melted a spoon to the rest of the front cover and nearly burned my kitchen down... my mother thought it was hysterically funny, I can't even can with the 'Dummies' book.

:gig i spill on cookbooks right away, but have yet to catch one on fire. Being a pyro from toddlerhood, I have always been good about no accidental fires....
