I save all of those little trimmings and slivers till I have enough then I simply drop them in a little bit of hot water for a few minutes till they start to soften a bit. Then I just start squeezing them together. :p Goopy and fun!

I like to make the balls about 3 inches or so across. A nice comfortable size to handle when scrubbing. The balls are especially pretty when I use slivers from several different colored soap batches. (I use natural colorings like paprika or cinnamon) If I want to make them extra special I drain off all of the water from the softened bits and then add several drops of essential oil to sent the balls. Makes it extra nice.

After the balls are formed you simply let them dry in an airy place for a couple of days. :D

I save those little leftover slivers from my bath and other soaps to bust up for soap balls as well.

Today my.. well somehow they are related to me, they came by and I taught them how to make goat milk soap. All went well and I used my stick blender for the first time - until after they left and I checked at the soap in the molds, in the biggest one I can see that it is beginning to get very clear under the dried top layer. Similar to what the soap in your picture was like. I used the same recipe that I always use. Blah.

False alarm!
It was all the same colour until the middle got clear; but now it has hardened and appears to be the same colour through and through.. We'll find out tomorrow after I cut it.

Cool- another soap thread!

I started keeping track of what I am spending for soap supplies- I just bought 3 silicone molds (since I melted one of the plastic ones I bought pre-heating the oven to keep my newly poured soaps warm :barnie) I'm not planning on selling them, just using them ourselves. Trouble is, it is fun, and I already have months worth of soaps curing to use  Maybe I'll sell them at my work's Christmas craft fair this year.

Soap is funny like that. First you decide to try it. Then before you know it you get obsessed, trying new recipes and experimenting. Pretty soon you find yourself taking lots more baths and you STILL have a LOT of soap around the house! :gig
