I would definitely borrow from Peter to pay Paul on this one- AC is crucial. I hope you can get it fixed soon!

yea this is why we chat about emergency funds!

for stupid expensive cruddy problems like this but have a repairman check it on Monday. it could be a very inexpensive fix like mine was.

I dunno if we will have it fixed or not. When it's a toss up to either make the house payment or have AC...I'm making the house payment hands down. We'll find some way to get it fixed a bit later, it's just June, not even supposed to be this hot right now, so maybe things will cool down some to being bearable. It is raining a good bit right now and keeping it cooler. We'll save a lot of money on electricity until it gets worked out

FC I have been trying to get an emergency fund built back up for 2 years now :/ It aint happening :barnie

do you 'know a friend'?
like my neighbor is a contractor and knows all elec./ac/plumbing etc.

oh man in an emergency this guy is great, in fact, for lower prices he does everything for me. if you have that type of friend use them NOW haha

I don't know anyone in HVAC. All of my buddies are electricians and construction workers, or truck drivers, and a couple are doctors, some real estate agents, a few landscapers, a plumber, and a few are just bums  you'd think I'd have an HVAC buddy in there somewhere....but I actually NEED one, so of course i don't have one  Maybe I need to interview some new friends to make sure I have everything covered from now on :gig This is really a pain in the butt.

I can't help but think, my family has lived in this area for a few centuries, and they never had this problem...they never had AC anyway, and they obviously lived and had offspring who survived the heat :hu Maybe I won't get it fixed..maybe I shouldn't really care. Maybe I am just crazy though ;)

I feel for you. My ac was out these past two years and didn't get it up and running until temps neared 100 degrees.

Last year I had a warantee and so called repairman, and it ended up a $60 fix. This year I didn't know WHAT I was going to do. I thought it MUST be a particular part, but the guy at the parts store tested it and said it was good. Did some You-Tube research and you know what? It turned out these little bugs tracked in dirt that blocked the connections and it only needed a cleaning!

It's very rare (maybe only that once) over many years I've called a professional for anything that breaks. Usually I end up at a DIY forum, or the manufacturer's forum, or SOME forum where I can find experts who eventually help me find the problem and fix it. It's incredibly frustrating having to do it, and you REALLY have to be concerned about safety, but it IS very satisfying to finally fix it.

But if you have a skill to trade, I like the idea of a barter. Craigslist sometimes offers a lot of listings, but to be honest, Ive thought about emailing every vet and dentist within 100 miles to get what I need done.

Hope you get it fixed soon. I KNOW how that feels! Oh, and I set up fans and misters for my rabbits outside, and it cools amazingly well. I couldn't get my makeshift attempt at a swamp cooler to work, but it was surely a mistake on my part. I'd consider it even with a working ac for the energy savings alone. A little mist and a fan works SO well to cool outside, I'm convinced it's worth trying a good alternative.
