The Norwegian Nobel Committee countered that it was trying "to promote what he stands for and the positive processes that have started now." It lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen the U.S. role in combating climate change.

that is why he was honored with the Prize.

Actually he's done quite a lot and is heading our country in a direction to accomplish more. It is well deserved. I know the dark side does not appreciate the fact that he is actually trying to make us a member of the world and treating other countries as though they are something other than just items of interest for our corporations. Hopefully he will be further inclined to stay the course and the US can rightfully sit at the table with the rest of the worlds leaders. Not just because we have the biggest military. Hopefully he will settle our differences with Al Quaida and the Taliban since we will never be able to kill them all. or control them.

good post big daddy.

I think you explained a good reason why so many do not like him....he wants us to be part of the global world!

alot of people still want to believe that the U.S. is monster special...we are alone in this special category! and while we are a great nation, we are still part of the world and so many do not want to acknowledge that.

:thumbsup

I do not appreciate in the least being called a member of "the dark side". I am an American, a conservative, and I protest publically this administrations policies, as is my right under the Constitution. That was an uncalled for characterization of those who oppose your viewpoint.

OSLO President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to build momentum behind his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

The article says he WON this morning!

He has not received any such thing. He, along with 204 others, have been merely nominated.

All that is required for nomination is that someone with authority submit a name to the committee; there is no benchmark of achievement.

In theory, a nomination cannot be "bought". In practice, well that's another thing. All one need do is make friends with someone who has the authority to nominate.

It is common for politicos to be nominated, in particular by large donors. The information on all of this is allegedly held inviolate by the committee for a period of 50 years, and then released.

I am certain that all of us would congratulate anyone who received this sort of honor, however. So, all things being equal, what say we send retroactive congrats to another American who was given the exact same honor in 2007: Rush Limbaugh.
Don't go to Fox. The rest of the media is reporting he won. You are correct that he won out of a field of 205 nominees. Sorry being nominated and winning is not the same thing. The Drugster will never be at the same level. Even the Republicans are rejecting him and Beck now.

International reaction:

UK papers call it an embarrassing joke and a mockery of the peace prize.

Lech Walesa: He has done nothing to deserve it.

The AP says that he was awarded the prize because they HOPE he will do great things.

He hasn't ended the war, he hasn't closed Gitmo, he didn't sway the IOC (quite the opposite). He has been indecisive in Afghanistan, causing unnecessary deaths, and now we realize that the delay in sending reinforcements was probably so that he could still be seen as "peaceful" to the Nobel committee.

Yahoo had reported the nomination, and I just got an email from my son-in-law telling me he won. That is why I deleted the previous post. But thank you for saving it for me so that the point about Limbaugh could be made.

I stand firmly against this President.
