Whew! got a bit accomplished today and hit some snags along the way.
origional plan to pre-paint everythign was screwed, when i opend the paint it was all dry, called lowes theyll give me a refund even though it was clearance...woot! i also dont have enough screws to do 2 hutches...so instead i decided id get a start on one.
i still need to do the door for the other half of the front but it got dark lol.
the door to the "nest" box has a bolt and a locking hasp, i do have some little padlocks, aparently the neighbor had his rabbits stolen a few years ago and thats why nhe doesnt have any now. i was origionally going to just go sping clips but i have some little luggage locks...wouldnt stop a serious bunny napper but enough to deter anyone just "rescuing" them lol
the wire door will also have a bolt and locking hasp.
the dark room is 2x2 and the wire area is also 2x2, for a total of 8 sqft per bunny...alot more room than a wire cage would give.
the floor is covered in linolium and eventually the inside back will have a rubby wal guard too. the whole thing inside and out will be painted in a bunny safe paint.
the legs are pressure treated so i dont have to worry about them being in contact with the ground
right now ive got a couple of old storm windows on the roof just in case the grey clouds that teased me as the day got on decide to give us a shower.
its hard to tell from the pics because the ground is terrible unlevel right now, but the whole thing is pretty dang close to square and the roof as a 1 1/2 inch decline to the back, theres a small gap on either end which will give the bedroom area a little extra ventilation too.
the door into the bedroom is 12" x 12" planty big enough for an adult rabbit but should be small enough to keep most driving rain ect out.
underneath is the start of the duck house.
hutch #2 will share the side wall with this and become a covered run for the runner ducks (giving them a covered 8x2 area with a 4x2 "house")
i plan to grow snap peas up the wire end in the summer to help keep it shaded (and they can help themselves to the peas and vines that grow through the wire )
im actually VERY pleased with how this turned out, its not professional in any way shape or form
but i think once its painted itll look quite nice
going to try and use some salvaged shingles for the roof, i whent with cheaper ply so i dont think doing a green roof will work without some serious plastic barrier...
so instead ill shingle the roof and put a gutter on the front as a planter, and on on the back for water collection.
the rest of it will be painted red with white trim and white interior.
LOL, close cherio, most of my tools ARE pink, my drill and my jigsaw are black but the rest and my toolbag are pink!, but i dont own a toolbelt and i cant afford the pink overalls i want lol! (TSC has them though lol)
yup there "girls" but since i lost my weight the large actually do fit me LOL
i tried them on before i moved here LOL...ill have to get the picture off dad
they also have the matching cold weather jacket!
i was origionally thinking of painting the hutches Pink too...but didnt know how that would effect the boy bunnies...lol.
if theres no cheap paint tomorrow they may end up pink! lol. i bought red because it was on the cheapy rack, but yeah
i culd definatly make a girly famrer statment by painting all the things i build PINK and white! wooo! LOL
