I doubt there are many here who are into homeopathic medicine but if you are this is a nice little guide for the care of flu.
............

The flu came through already for us. (Nov. 2006) I had a gelsenium flu and it was a rough one. It required repeated dosages of gels. 200c.. Fully sick for one day then I found the correct remedy I was well in two days, progressively better each couple of hours. The remedy made a marked difference in how I felt, how much pain I had and whether I could walk across the room or not. In this particular case I found it worked best for me when Gelsenium diluted in a glass of water and sipped on through the day.

Gelsenium has cured flu for me two times, once back in '92 when traveling in Mexico. Sick as a dog. Cured by gels. in just a couple of hours, from bedridden to normal over night.

Influenza-1918: Homeopathy to the Rescue

by Julian Winston

It was called "the Great White Plague." It is hard to imagine the
devastation caused by the Flu Epidemic of 1918-19. People who lived through it reported that someone who was up and well in the morning could be dead by evening.

Dr. H. A. Roberts was a physician on a troop ship at the time. Another boat
pulled alongside to get any spare coffins- it's mortality rate was so high.
On his return to port, the commander said to Roberts, "used all your
coffins?" To which Roberts, who had been treating his ship with homeopathy, replied, "Yes, and lost not one man!"

The following is an extract from an article entitled "Homeopathy In
Influenza- A Chorus Of Fifty In Harmony" by W. A. Dewey, MD that appeared in the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy in 1920.

Dean W. A. Pearson of Philadelphia collected 26,795 cases of influenza
treated by homeopathic physicians with a mortality of 1.05%, while the
average old school mortality is 30%.

Thirty physicians in Connecticut responded to my request for data. They
reported 6,602 cases with 55 deaths, which is less than 1%. In the transport service I had 81 cases on the way over. All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment. One ship lost 31 on the way. H. A.
Roberts, MD, Derby, Connecticut.

In a plant of 8,000 workers we had only one death. The patients were not
drugged to death. Gelsemium was practically the only remedy used. We used no aspirin and no vaccines. -Frank Wieland, MD, Chicago.

I did not lose a single case of influenza; my death rate in the pneumonias
was 2.1%. The salycilates, including aspirin and quinine, were almost the
sole standbys of the old school and it was a common thing to hear them
speaking of losing 60% of their pneumonias.-Dudley A. Williams, MD,
Providence, Rhode Island.

Fifteen hundred cases were reported at the Homeopathic Medical Society of the District of Columbia with but fifteen deaths. Recoveries in the National Homeopathic Hospital were 100%.-E. F. Sappington, M. D., Philadelphia.

I have treated 1,000 cases of influenza. I have the records to show my work. I have no losses. Please give all credit to homeopathy and none to the Scotch-Irish-American! -T. A. McCann, MD, Dayton, Ohio.

One physician in a Pittsburgh hospital asked a nurse if she knew anything
better than what he was doing, because he was losing many cases. "Yes,
Doctor, stop aspirin and go down to a homeopathic pharmacy, and get
homeopathic remedies." The Doctor replied: "But that is homeopathy." "I know it, but the homeopathic doctors for whom I have nursed have not lost a single case." -W. F. Edmundson, MD, Pittsburgh.

There is one drug which directly or indirectly was the cause of the loss of
more lives than was influenza itself. You all know that drug. It claims to
be salicylic acid. Aspirin's history has been printed. Today you don't know
what the sedative action of salicylic acid is. It did harm in two ways. It's
indirect action came through the fact that aspirin was taken until
prostration resulted and the patient developed pneumonia. -Frank L. Newton,
MD, Somerville, Massachusetts

Aspirin and the other coal tar products are condemned as causing great
numbers of unnecessary deaths. The omnipresent aspirin is the most
pernicious drug of all. It beguiles by its quick action of relief of pain, a
relief which is but meretricious. In several cases aspirin weakened the
heart, depressed the vital forces, increased the mortality in mild cases and
made convalescence slower. In all cases it masks the symptoms and renders immeasurably more difficult the selection of the curative remedy. Apparently aspirin bears no curative relation to any disease and it ought
to be prohibited. -Guy Beckly Stearns, MD, New York

Three hundred and fifty cases and lost one, a neglected pneumonia that came to me after she had taken one hundred grains of aspirin in twenty-four hours. -Cora Smith King, MD, Washington, DC

I had a package handed to me containing 1,000 aspirin tablets, which was 994 too many. I think I gave about a half dozen. I could find no place for it. My remedies were few. I almost invariably gave Gelsemium and Bryonia. I hardly ever lost a case if I got there first, unless the patient had been sent to a drug store and bought aspirin, in which event I was likely to have a case of pneumonia on my hands. -J. P. Huff, MD, Olive Branch, Kentucky.

In reading the accounts of the epidemic it seems that most of the deaths
were caused by a virulent pneumonia that was especially devastating to those who depressed their system with analgesics-the most common being aspirin.

The Physician from whom I first learned homeopathy, Raymond Seidel, MD, HMD, said that he decided to be a homeopathic doctor during the flu epidemic when he was working as a delivery boy for a homeopath in New Jersey. Raymond Seidel told me that he decided to become a homeopathic doctor when he was a ten-year old delivery boy for a local homeopath. He said, "I saw that the people who were taking aspirin were dying, about half those who were drinking a lot were dying, and those that received homeopathic remedies were
living."

I have a set of homoepathic remedies and many books on the subject. Gelsenium is by far the most important remedy to have either in 30c or 200c potency.

other remedies to have on hand are in same potencies are:

Aconite - the first remedy to give with in the first few hours only, especially if there is fear. It they are not feeling better in a couple of hours move on to another remedy. If in doubt give it.

Bryonia: generalized muscle and joint pain, hurts to move, moving eyes causes pain, dry hacking painful cough with flu, pain in chest, ribs. wants to lay down and not move
Pulsatilla: child may cling
Belladonna:[/b] Red hot flushed face, dry mouth. dilated pupils, bad dreams or delirious, refuses drinks. or only infrequent little sips.
Rhus Tox: if extremely restless
Veratrim Alb: when very serious, face pale, blue, body with chills, cold feeling in stomach, cold breath , pneumonia, Delusions, aimless wandering, delirium with violence.
Arsencium alb: - may have burning pains, anxious, restless
Eupatorium perfloiatum: chills, bruised soreness all over the body and the bone feels as if they would break, especially the back.. dry hacking cough, thirst for ice cold drinks.
phosporus: (if pneumonia develops with craving for ice cold water)

My son had a Veratrum Album flu several years ago. It scared me to death and it is probably why I worry so much about this avian flu. He overcame it with no thanks to me. I did not find this remedy until he was over it but saw the picture so clearly when I read about it. This remedy is generally not listed with common flu remedies but may be indicated for flu. You think the person may die they look so bad.

I had a bad flu while traveling in Mexico in 92. I was so terribly weak I could barely get to my homoepathic medicines. Gelsenium put me into a deep sleep from which I awoke about 6 hours latter quite well.

A book written by Dana Ullman is a good start with homeopathy and may help you through the flu. "Everybody's guide to Homeopathic Medicines"

Actually, I believe there are entire threads on here dedicated to homeopathy, alternative medicine, essential oils, etc. Thanks for the info you shared!

Heres what Dr WC Douglass has to say on the subject in his latest newsletter. Lets hope he is right. ( I think is probably is!)
Quote:
Media pigs misinforming public about so-called "epidemic"

Dear Friend,

Those filthy swine... The swine flu "epidemic" is only a few days old, and Big Pharma is already plotting to make a fortune.

European drug maker Roche announced it was scaling up production of Tamiflu, giving a boost to its stock price and sending millions into the Roche coffers. GlaxoSmithKline, which makes the anti-flu drug Relenza, is also seeing its stock price climb, as investors hope this swine flu is the biggest thing since the bubonic plague.

There's only one problem here it's not going to happen. You read the Daily Dose because I always give you the straight scoop, and because I'm not afraid to tell you when the mainstream has it wrong.

And they have it wrong on swine flu. It won't be an epidemic it'll barely even be a ripple. I've run medical clinics in Africa I know what an epidemic looks like.

And this isn't it.

The media is blowing swine flu out of proportion so it can feed its 24-hour news cycle the same media, mind you, that had us convinced that avian flu was going to destroy the planet a few years ago.

But here are the facts about swine flu it has affected so few people in America that it's hardly worth discussing. There are 64 confirmed cases in America as I'm writing this not 6,000 or even 600. There are 64.

Of course, the media is fixated on the 100 or so people who have died in Mexico from the swine flu. But let me clue you into something that no one seems to be discussing health care in Mexico is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I know I've been there more times than I can count.

Disease spreads rapidly through Mexico because large areas of the country lack clean water and basic sanitation. Seeing a doctor let alone a qualified doctor is a luxury unavailable to most of the population. Of course the flu is killing people in Mexico so are a lot of other diseases that are successfully treated in America. People in Mexico still die from diarrhea, for Pete's sake!

Yes, they have apparently had some cases of bad swine flu in Mexico. They've had lots of dengue fever and chagas, too, but you don't need to stay up at night worrying about it. Beating the swine flu isn't any different from beating the regular flu. Wash your hands. Avoid large crowds if you can. Get plenty of rest and fluids if you start getting sick.

And don't be afraid to eat pork or any other meat, for that matter, as it's not the pigs who are getting sick. Of course, I'm not recommending you eat Mexican pork or any food produced in Mexico, for that matter. Hopefully the tainted peppers outbreak of 2008 taught us that. But don't change your diet because of some so-called swine flu epidemic.

It's no epidemic. It's no public health catastrophe. It's good theatre and nothing more.

I posted this on BYC...

"Here is a VERY simple, inexpensive way you can help protect yourself from colds and flu...

"Is sunshine more than just a home remedy for a cold? New research suggests it may be: In a study that will be published tomorrow, people with low levels of vitamin D also known as the "sunshine vitamin" were more likely to catch cold and flu than folks with adequate amounts. The effect of the vitamin was strongest in people with asthma and other lung diseases who are predisposed to respiratory infections.

People with the worst vitamin D deficiency were 36 percent more likely to suffer respiratory infections than those with sufficient levels, according to the research in this week's Archives of Internal Medicine. Among asthmatics, those who were vitamin D deficient were five times more likely to get sick than their counterparts with healthy levels. And the risk of respiratory infection was twice as high among vitamin D-deficient patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) than in lung patients with normal levels of the vitamin."
http://www.sciam.com/blog/60-second-sci 2009-02-23

"Every autumn, as vitamin D levels plummet, the incidence of colds and flu skyrocket. After vitamin D levels bottom out during the darkest days of the cold and flu season, vitamin D levels rise again in the spring and the incidence of colds and flu steadily decrease until they virtually disappear during the vitamin D rich summer. It may be quite simple. Your body's innate immunity, especially the production of innate natural antibiotics called antimicrobial peptides, goes up and down every year with your vitamin D levels. (Acquired immunity is quite different, those are the antibodies you slowly develop after an infection or a flu shot.) Maintaining summer-time vitamin D levels in the winterby taking adequate amounts of vitamin D (5,000 IU)may help prevent colds or the flu by stimulating innate immunity. Preventing some of the one million deaths in the world every year from flu related illnesses is exciting enough; an equally exciting possibility is that large doses of vitamin D may be useful in treating the fluas well as other infections."
http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/newsletter/2006-oct.shtml

I take liquid vitamin D drops in the winter, but I will continue taking it until this flu passes. The average female uses 4000IU/day and males use 6000IU/day. So no, your vitamin d fortified milk ISN'T giving you enough D. The 400IU in your multivitamin is just enough to keep you from getting rickets, but it is NOT enough to cover your daily needs. If you are not getting full sun exposure for 30 minutes a day, you are most likely vitamin D deficient. If you only go outside after slathering yourself in sunscreen, you are most likely deficient. If you are dark-skinned and live in a northern climate, you are most likely deficient. If you are overweight, you are most likely deficient since being overweight impairs your bodies ability to utilize vitamin D.

There is a blood test your doctor can order to let you know if you are getting enough. Get a 25-hydroxyvitamin D test, also called a 25(OH)D. Your levels should be above 50 ng/ml year-round.

The liquid D I use is Carlson brand and a bottle is $14 at Vitamin Cottage. A single bottle can last up to 3 months depending on dosage. If you decide to take D supplements, make sure you take D3, NOT D2. D2 is plant derived and not as bioavailable as D3. Also keep in mind that vitamin D is a FAT SOLUBLE vitamin. If you take the dry tablets, they must be taken with some kind of fat or you are wasting your time."

I've worked diligently to get my vitamin D levels up. Currently they are about 90, where they should be for someone who has or has had any chronic disease.

In spite of this high level I've had two colds this year, more than I have had in many many years... so it makes me skeptical.

Sunshine is not a good source of vitamin D for middle aged and up. You loose the ability in the skin to produce vitamin D after a certain age, therefor supplementation is necessary.

My girlfriend who's children attend public school in our area just gave me a call. She received a phone notice stating the WHO evel has gone up to five. If it goes to 6, which I am not sure what would justify a 6, all public schools in our area will close.

Hummm???

I foiund my own answer.

My great grandmother died from the 1918 Influenza at age 30, specifically from pneumonia. This isn't exactly new information.
I don't recall having heard before about pneumonia being what ultimately did the 1918 sufferers in, so learning that and hearing your own family's experience really makes me concerned about the whole Tamiflu scenario. Hmmmmm . . . .

I found it disturbing to hear that almost as soon as swine flu was announced, they were saying Tamiflu would be effective against it. That just seems a little too pat (neat & tidy) in my mind. What are the odds?
